University of Nevada, Reno Extension continues its online town hall and webinar series next week to assist small-business owners. With many businesses still struggling due to COVID-19, some are having trouble maintaining good credit or paying vendors.

CARSON CITY — Fire Prevention Week 2020 is October 4-10. The Nevada Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division, is proud and excited to hold its 4th annual poster contest. Winners of four categories will have their artwork featured on billboards statewide.

The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange (Exchange), the state agency that connects Nevadans to Qualified Health Plans through the online State Based Exchange (SBE), known as Nevada Health Link, announces the Open Enrollment Period (OEP) for Plan Year 2021 will run from November 1 through January 15, 2021 – extending the traditional OEP by an additional 30 days and giving consumers a total of 75 days to enroll in a comprehensive health care plan.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. The University of Nevada, Reno announced yesterday that students were being asked to vacate the dormitories and that no refunds would be given. However, following public outcry, the university changed their policies and have now announced refunds will be given.

UPDATE TUESDAY: In response to health concerns from COVID-19 and recommendations from the governor's office, the Carson City Library is closed until April 6 or until the State Medical Officer evaluates the public health risk and determines it is safe to resume normal operations. All homebound service and outreach activities are suspended.

Today, Ronni Hannaman has filed for the Carson City Supervisor seat in Ward 2 to be vacated by Supervisor Brad Bonkowski who has elected not to run for reelection.

The Nevada Northern Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board elected Taylor Allison, executive director of Partnership Douglas County, as their new chair on Feb. 26.

“Our board is comprised of 13 passionate individuals focusing on a common goal,” Allison said. “Together, we can move the needle and help improve the lives of patients and families in Northern Nevada.”

Fourteen area middle and high school students were awarded cash prizes for their entries into the Fleet Reserve Association Branch (FRA) No. 137 Annual Essay-writing contest on Feb. 29 at a luncheon sponsored by the branch Auxiliary in Carson City, held in their honor.

On February 28, NV Energy filed its Natural Disaster Protection Plan with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada per Senate Bill 329, that outlines how the company plans to help protect the public from the impacts of natural disasters on its electric infrastructure that have been experienced in other Western states.
