Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson City Historical Society has recently been thrust into the spotlight because of the proposed demolition of the 155-year old building once occupied by Café at Adele’s and preceding businesses through the years attracting hundreds of customers through those historic doors.

Soroptimist International of Carson City is pleased to announce our “Women Helping Women” Honorees to be recognized for their dedication to improving the lives of women or girls in our community, at our inaugural “Celebrating Women Helping Women” event on Feb. 20, 2020 at the Carson Nugget, from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Early Saturday morning, Central Lyon Fire responded to a structure fire on Nugget Lane in Dayton, which resulted in one fatality.

Central Lyon Fire issued the following statement:

"Early this morning, just before 0100 Central Lyon Fire units responded to a structure fire on Nugget Lane in Dayton. Single family dwelling, 2 residents were able to self extricate, one individual did not make it out.

The fire is being investigated by Central and the Lyon County SO, the State Fire Marshal has been notified.

Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

The Carson Nugget and Food For Thought, a Carson city nonprofit that is dedicated to feeding children in need, teamed up this fall and launched a winter coat drive that culminated Monday where dozens of children were able to pick their new jackets and parkas and enjoy a holiday brunch among friends and family.

On Monday, Dec. 23, more than 130 Carson City children in transition will receive a brand new coat, a gift and a holiday brunch, thanks to the efforts of Food for Thought, a Carson City-based non-profit dedicated to feeding children, and the generosity of the Carson City Nugget Casino Hotel.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

Don't miss out on this weekend's comedy show at the Carson Nugget in Carson City. Comedian Adam Richmond is well known for his edgy and hilarious comedic stylings. He has done voiceover work for Nickelodeon and Disney. Adam has performed for American Troops and regularly performs for the military across the globe. Local Comic Jeff Anderson will host the show.

Enjoy holiday traditions at the La Posada Celebration which is happening Saturday, Dec. 14 from noon to 3 p.m. at Carson Nugget Hall in the Aspen Building on Western Nevada College’s Carson City campus.

The days keep moving along, ever closer to the weekend and huge helpings of Christmas holiday activities. Thursday events around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting with the developer of the proposed Andersen Ranch, a presentation: "Feathers and Furs of the Carson Valley" at the River Fork Ranch, an "End to Prohibition Party" at Gather restaurant, and more.

Since 1988, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights has heralded in Carson City’s holiday season. The festival has grown from a simple tree lighting on the capitol grounds to involving the entire downtown core attracting thousands to enjoy this very special event.
