Tickets are available for a Aug. 18, 2017 VIP Celebrity Dinner the night before the Aug. 19 Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival in Carson City.

The special VIP evening dinner at Empire Ranch Golf Course, is for people to meet and mingle with the celebrities, athletes and musicians who will be in Carson City to honor fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell, said organizer Don Alexander, who formed the nonprofit The Last Respond Fund, to raise money for the Howell family.

Just a few days left, and the school year will over. Scope out one of Carson City’s neighborhood parks during today’s Easy Walk or participate in something a little more strenuous as Muscle Powered tackles Prison Hill, off Snyder. Kids are encouraged to wear their comfy clothes and bring a favorite stuffed animal during the Carson Library’s weekly Pajama Story Time. The Deputy Howell Memorial Music Festival is quickly approaching, so all volunteers will need to attend tonight’s planning meeting at Harley Davidson.

Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away. On my way to where the air is sweet. I can tell you where to find some fun, down on Carson Street. Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee is the hot ticket tonight. Such a beautiful day in store, they’ll probably be in the courtyard. Our rivers and reservoirs are filled to the brim: if you ever wanted to learn more about fly-fishing, this is probably a good time for it. The Carson City Fly Fishing Club meets monthly at the Carson City Airport and is a perfect choice for those who already love or are curious about the sport.

And the pendulum of crazy weather returns to something spring-like. Granted, the lawns and gardens in Carson City are loving this wet stuff, I just want the sunshine to stay put. The brewery at the corner of Proctor and N. Carson Street will soon be opening as ‘The Union’ and is seeking staff for what promises to be an exciting downtown venture for chef, Mark Estee. A job fair today and Tuesday will have hiring managers on hand to fill the front and back of the house. Wildfire Awareness Month is honored at the State Legislature today.

Suspect Terrane performs an entertaining eclectic spectrum of acoustic music, drawing on the influences of bluegrass, western swing, folk, and rock, and pulling it all together with rich vocal harmonies. They will be at the Brewery Arts Center MHJ Black Box Theater, on Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m.

There will be a planning and volunteer meeting this Tuesday, 6:15 p.m. for the inaugural Deputy Howell Memorial Music Festival. The meeting will be at Battle Born Harley Davidson, 2900 Research Way.

It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Mile High Jazz Band, Carson High Jazz Band, and Carson Middle School Jazz Band present the 14th annual combined concert, the Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1976, presents The Fire on Saturday, Jan. 14, 7 p.m. in the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater.

After a brief pause in the rain yesterday, the storm has returned. I write this list with trepidation, as localized flooding is still affecting homes and businesses around town. Everything on this list is subject to cancellation. It’s back to school for the kids of Lyon County and Carson. Jacks Valley Elementary is closed, but all other Minden/Gardnerville students are headed back. Organizers of the Deputy Howell Memorial Music Festival and Fundraiser set for August in Carson City have announced a volunteer organizational meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City. Organizers are looking for volunteers and anyone who has experience in planning events. The meeting is at 6 p.m. Battle Born Harley-Davidson is located at 2900 Research Way.

A music festival and memorial event to honor fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell has been set for Aug. 19, 2017 at Battle Born Harley-Davidson in Carson City, according to organizers.

The 13th Annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival, sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, continued Friday night with performances in downtown Carson City.

Are you ready for the new school year? One last weekend of summer break before the kids of Carson City head back, so make the most of it. The 13th annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival continued Thursday evening with a performance by the Carolyn Dolan Band and members of the Reno Jazz Orchestra at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall on King Street.
