Monday's Democratic luncheon will feature a presentation by the business development team of Ormat Technologies, owner-operator of the Steamboat geothermal complex south of Reno. Ormat designs and builds geothermal and recovered energy generating equipment for power generators in 30 countries around the world. In Africa, Central America and the United States, they supply energy from their own plants to utilities that distribute electricity directly to consumers.

Heading into the first Monday of June and the capital city couldn't look any brighter. Weather wise it will be a great day for a walk, hike or bike ride with mostly sunny skies and a high near 80. Around town there's art classes, a local talk with Carson City's mayor, dance classes and a workshop at Rustically Divine on getting organized around the home. Enjoy your day and the week ahead.

Mayor Bob Crowell will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. He will review how legislation enacted by the 80th session of the Nevada state legislature is likely to impact Carson City.

Heading into Memorial Day, May 27, 2019, we urge all to take time out of your day to honor those who served and died defending our country. Memorial Day is the day we celebrate those men and women who passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces. There are events Monday in Carson City at the Stewart Indian School Cemetery and at Lone Mountain Cemetery and in Fernley at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! It’s going to be another grey day, with a high of 64 and a low of 44. But hey, it could be freezing, or things could be on fire, so I won’t complain! On the docket today we’ve got day two of the Rib Fest, a Virginia City train tour, museum activities, a heroes parade, and more. As we head into a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend, activities and events around Carson City on Friday will help set the mood for what promises to be a tremendous few days ahead. Festivities include the opening day of the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Carson City's Casino Fandango, the planting of American flags on the graves of our fallen veterans at Lone Mountain Cemetery, a weekly open mic night at A to Zen, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club, live music and more.

World War II historian and author Ken Beaton will be the featured speaker at the Carson City Democrats' Memorial Day luncheon. He will narrate a slide show of photographs taken on his visits to American memorials and military cemeteries across Europe, including some ties to his own family.

The weekend came and went fast. But don't fret. There's a choice. Are the days ahead half full or half empty? You know the drill. As we prepare for Monday, May 20, 2019, we congratulate the 2019 graduates of Western Nevada College who sweated through the books and assignments to earn their well-deserved diplomas. Chip Evans, who holds leadership positions in several progressive advocacy groups, including Acting In Community Together In Organizing Northern Nevada (ACTIONN), Indivisible Northern Nevada, and the Nevada Gun Safety Coalition, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. In 2016, Evans was the Democratic candidate in Nevada's 2nd congressional district.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Superintendent of Schools Richard Stokes. He will address the staff and technology cuts needed to achieve a planned $2.9 million deficit reduction.

Nevada Appeal publisher Rob Galloway will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. He also serves as group publisher of The Tahoe Tribune in South Lake Tahoe, The Record-Courier in Minden and The Lahontan Valley News in Fallon.

Brad Bonkowski, Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor and Chair of the Carson City RTC (Regional Transportation Commission) will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. His appearance is intended as a town hall on the still unresolved issue of how maintenance of Carson's 676 lane-miles of roadway should be funded.

Hydrogeologist and professional wetland scientist Lori Carpenter will be the featured speaker at the Carson Democrats' special Earth Day luncheon. Having attended Al Gore's three-day Climate Reality Leadership Corps training, Lori is well prepared to lay out the realities of climate change and its long-term environmental consequences.

Janel Johnson, a botanist with the Nevada Natural Heritage program, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Having earned a bachelors in botany at Oregon State and a Masters in rangeland ecology from Montana State, Janel began her labor of love 15 years ago at the Natural Heritage program of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. A Political Science graduate of UNLV, Magnus has become a familiar face throughout the state as an outspoken advocate for progressive causes.

She has also served as Co-Chair of the Nevada Women's Lobby, a board member of Emerge Nevada, and Public Affairs Manager at Planned Parenthood of Southern Nevada.

This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8th, in the banquet room of Carson City's Round Table, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway.

Dennis Myers, News Editor at the Reno News & Review, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon. Myers has covered the Nevada political scene on television and in print for decades, and that depth of experience is evidenced by the historical context he brings to his reporting of contemporary politics.

And that may happen today with gusty winds to usher in another storm, expected to bring up to 2 feet of snow around Lake Tahoe. Ray Hagar of Nevada NewsMakers will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. The long-time political reporter at the Reno Gazette Journal, Hagar retired in 2015 after a 38-year career of full-time journalism, but has continued his 15 year association with Sam Shad co-hosting Nevada NewsMakers on television.

This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March the 25th, in the banquet room of Carson City's Round Table, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway.

Sondra Cosgrove, President of the League of Women Voters of Nevada and Professor of History at the College of Southern Nevada, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon.

Her teleconferenced presentation will spotlight AB186, legislation currently under consideration which if enacted will ratify the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote. Judy Welch, program coordinator for the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, will moderate the discussion locally.

UPDATE: The Subaru, Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be leading an Awareness Workshop at the Carson City Community Center in the Bonanza Room tonight. Leave No Trace teaches outdoor skills and ethics, minimizing our impacts and enjoying the outdoors responsibly. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Go here to register.

Tom Blake, NETworX Program Manager at the Capital City CIRCLES Initiative will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. An Anglican priest, Blake came to Carson City from Muncie, Indiana, where he served for 13 years as pastor of Grace Episcopal Church.

James DeHaven, who covers Northern Nevada and statewide politics for the Reno Gazette Journal, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon.

A Dayton, Nevada, native, DeHaven is the winner of the 2015 James Foley Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism and a two-time recipient of investigative reporting awards from the Nevada Press Association, which acknowledged his work on stories uncovering fraud and tenant intimidation at a low-income housing complex, as well as a previously unreported backlog of parolees in the Nevada prison system.
