Assembly candidate to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Shannon McDaniel, a licensed professional engineer and water rights surveyor who is currently a candidate for Nevada State Assembly, District 40. Having no primary opposition on the Democatic side, she will advance to the November 8th general election, where she will face off against the winner of the Republican primary between incumbent P.K. O'Neill and challenger Gary Schmidt.

The GOP contenders are Timothy Duvall, Lisa Krasner, Monica Stabbert and incumbent Don Tatro.

Hanifan is the only candidate in that field who hails from the Carson City area.

She also serves as the board's liaison with Seeliger Elementary School and Carson High School.

Prior to the main event, Henderson mayor and Lt Governor candidate Debra March, who will be present as part of a campaign swing through the northern counties, will be afforded an opportunity to introduce herself and say a few words.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Adam Keller, spokesperson for Gush Shalom ("Peace Bloc"), an extra-parliamentary organization independent of any political party. The group objects to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and opposes Israel's policies of blockade and non-recognition of the Gaza Strip. They support a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, with the Green Line as the border except for minor exchanges of territories, and with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.
