Silver Oak golf course owner provides multiple gifts to Western Nevada College Foundation

Donated to the Western Nevada College Foundation on behalf of the E.L. Cord Automotive Technology Center by Garth Richards, owner of the Silver Oak Golf Course located near the college in Carson City, the combined parts have an appraised value of $15,000.
Nevada Justice Association Teams Up With Assemblywoman Amber Joiner for Backpack Drive
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 09/18/2015 - 3:38pmOn Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, the Nevada Justice Association (NJA) – a statewide non-profit organization of trial lawyers – teamed up with Assemblywoman Amber Joiner to deliver backpacks and other school supplies to the students at Glenn Duncan STEM Academy.
Throughout the month of August, NJA members collected various items, including backpacks, notebooks, writing utensils and cleaning supplies, to help students be as prepared as possible for the new school year. The drive was led by “Trial Lawyers Care,” the community outreach arm for the Nevada Justice Association.
Carson Chamber Singers and Symphony Chorus begin rehearsals for 2015-16 season

The first rehearsal is Tuesday, September 22, at 7:00 p.m., at the Carson High School Choral Room, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City. Each group will perform in several concerts this season.

The recent zeal to bring attention to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) has rightfully brought the topic to the fore. But I feel that the media blitz has been at the expense of other equally severe mental disabilities, the awareness of which have waned and suffered. However good the intentions toward autism coverage may be, this attention has consequently overshadowed other developmental disabilities that are just as critical to treat, and equally heart-breaking.

After spending his 64th birthday with his closest family, and fulfilling his wish to live to 64 years of age and force his family to sing, “When I'm 64,” to him, Ron Gonzales, known to most as Gonzo, died at 2:33 a.m. August 14, after suffering from COPD for decades. He spent his last week pleasantly, able to read for the first time in several years after suffering deteriorating eyesight – he'd received a Kindle for his birthday. His last day was spent with his granddaughter and wife, having fun with those he loved.

“Some of those things will stick with me forever,” he said. “It changes the way you look at things and the way you operate on a long-term basis to the short-term. I still can’t stand the smell of maple syrup and pancakes.”
It also changed the way he does his job.

Senator Square: Solutions program aims to help students with academic tutoring

152nd Airlift Wing round up geese in Reno, Carson City
Submitted by admin on Thu, 08/27/2015 - 2:08pmMembers of the 152nd Airlift Wing participated in the 30th annual Canadian goose roundup June 4 with the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the United States Department of Agriculture.
The event helped relocate geese away from aircraft in the Reno-Tahoe region to a safer location at the Mason Valley Wildlife Management area in Yerington.
The group of volunteers started at Silver Oaks Golf Course in Carson City early in the morning. They collected around 140 geese there before moving on.

Agencies seek public feedback on Lake Tahoe area land exchange
Submitted by editor on Wed, 08/26/2015 - 10:18amThe public is encouraged to comment on a proposed land exchange of properties in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The California Tahoe Conservancy and the U.S. Forest Service plan two open houses to present plans.
The proposal would transfer Forest Service urban lots to the California Tahoe Conservancy, while conveying some larger CTC parcels to the Forest Service.
“The proposed land exchange would increase the effectiveness of our urban lot program in meeting various environmental and public access goals in the Basin,” said California Tahoe Conservancy Executive Director Patrick Wright.
