Hello fellow anglers, winter doesn't officially begin until Dec. 21 but with our recent weather, I'm getting ready for ice fishing season.

With 8 degree mornings, the higher lakes are now beginning to freeze over. I prefer to wait until a lake has a minimum of 8 to 10 inches of ice on it before I venture out, even though statistics and various websites may say different.

I would like to give you some background on all those fish that are planted each year in Alpine County. There is a lot more to planting fish than just calling up the truck and telling them where to put fish. It takes team work from many individuals and most of all, money.

Hello fellow anglers, the weather has cooled down a little and the fishing has started to pick up around the area. Last weekend I took a trip early Saturday morning up to the East Carson River above Markleeville.
The mornings are cold, but warmed up about 7:30.

I fished a few long stretches of the river I have never fished before. I tip my hat to the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission. I just picked these spots at random because of the way they looked, Like something out of Field and Stream magazine.

Hello fellow anglers, there are only two things that make me extremely angry, and I experienced both of them this last week. While fishing last week, I met an angler with a limit of nice rainbow trout.

Hello fellow anglers, I would like to say to all the firefighters on the Washington fire, Thank you for saving Markleeville and the outlying community of Alpine County.

Column: Deep Thoughts, Cheap Shots and Bonbons

In the movie Dances with Wolves there is a line, one of the characters says, and it goes something like this: “Somebody back east is saying, why don’t he write?”
Many of you might be wondering the same thing about me. Why I haven’t written for a spell? I could list numerous reasons, some might be worth mentioning, and others would be insignificant.

In simple true-to-life terminology — I’m back. A few of the hot topics from the June 18th Board of Supervisor meeting.

At one time I felt as if I were at a ball game. I could hear the crowd  cheering  at one end of Willow Creek with the voices in unison rising and lowering as a 4-year-old angler was reeling in a 7 pound trout.

That my friends is what community is all about. I tip my hat to the Carson Valley Ranchers for stepping up and making a difference for the kids.
