Music series High Notes kicks off in June at North Lake Tahoe

North Lake Tahoe takes its music outdoors with a variety of live concerts, festivals and headliner events – all part of the destination’s High Notes: North Lake Tahoe Summerlong Music series, running June through September. The lake’s live music campaign also has a designated website that covers all the free events and ticketed performances.

Summer officially kicks off in North Lake Tahoe Memorial Day Weekend with the 6th Annual Opening Day at the Lake.
This four-day special event is Friday, May 25 to Monday, May 28, and is comprised of celebrations and festivities along the West Shore and the North Tahoe region. This event is produced by Lake Tahoe’s West Shore Association.

Virginia and Truckee Railroad season begins Memorial Day weekend

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad launches its 2012 summer season with round trip trains between Carson City and Virginia City this Memorial Day Weekend. The real deal and real feel of a clickety-clack, gentle-gallop departs from today and goes back in time to robber barons, miners, dance halls and saloon girls.

V&T Railroad offering special edition Mother's Day Train Rides

This Mother’s Day, take mom on an historical train excursion via the Virginia and Truckee Railroad Sunday, May 13.
This special edition train ride from Carson City to Virginia City will provide mom with a long stem rose, Wild West history, storytelling, shopping and dining in Virginia City to go along with the spectacular scenery. The train features a 1953 ALCO heritage diesel locomotive leading 100 year-old Pullman coaches displaying the distinctive yellow and green of the V&T.

Heavenly at Lake Tahoe to host U.S. Freestyle Championships through 2014

Heavenly Mountain Resort at South Lake Tahoe will host the U.S. Freestyle Championships in 2012-13 and 2013-14. The two-year deal brings the women’s and men’s moguls, aerials and dual moguls back to Lake Tahoe's South Shore for the second time. Heavenly also hosted the U.S. Freestyle Championships in 2004, as well as FIS World Cup Freestyle events in 1999 and 2000.

Two percent TOT funds Tahoe City project, future money slated for Kings Beach

The existing 2 percent Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), which is up for renewal on the June 5, 2012 ballot, has funded a number of North Lake Tahoe public improvement projects and services since voters first authorized it in 1996.

The renewal, called Measure F, is not a tax increase and, if passed, would continue to be paid by lodging guests only via the TOT bed tax when they spend the night in North Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe residents would not be taxed under Measure F.

North Tahoe to host Mountain Travel Symposium April 15-21

North Lake Tahoe is gearing up to host the 37th Annual Mountain Travel Symposium, one of the world’s premier ski industry wholesale conferences, April 15-21 at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, Calif. This is the second time North Lake Tahoe has been the designated conference host, having held the event with its 1,200 attendees back in 2006.

Downtown Gardnerville Hotel Gets New Owners

The Historian Inn, built in 2000 and located in downtown Gardnerville, has new owners who plan on bringing their brand of casual elegance to this community landmark.

Clé Hospitality, a hospitality company headquartered in Mammoth Lakes, CA, purchased the property in February 2012 and has already begun renovating hotel rooms with historic artwork and artifacts, custom-designed furniture, and upgraded beds and bedding. The hotel is currently open for guests, and a post-renovation grand opening event is planned for late May to showcase the property to locals.

Phantom of the Opera at Carson Community Center

The Northern Nevada premiere of Phantom of the Opera, Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic tale of forbidden love, will arrive at the Carson City Community Center during weekends in early November, according to the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The production will appear Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 4 - 20 at 2 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18-22 and may be purchased by phone or in person at the Performing Arts Office of Western Nevada College, 775-445-4249. Parking is free.

21st Annual Women's Wellness Week at Tahoe's Granlibakken
