White Cane Days, grand opening, pool tournament and more highlight weekend activities around Carson City

Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! I've got to tell you, yesterday I thought I had it all figured out and drove up to the spot I thought the medallion would be, only to meet two grumpy mine-tour owners who HATE games and puzzles. Needless to say, I had been wrong about the spot. But I will continue seeking, as should you!

Carson City's new Capital City Sushi replaces Kim Lee's; former owner's death remains a mystery

The popular sushi restaurant, located at 319 North Carson Street in downtown Carson City, closed down earlier this year amidst the COVID-19 shutdown, and Capital City Sushi took over the location soon after.

Stankute, 14, is one of the only girls in her council on the verge of earning her Eagle Scout rank. The Eagle Scout rank is the highest achievement attainable in the Scouts BSA program. Members who earn this rank must go through a lengthy review process and complete an Eagle Scout project.

Boys & Girls Club offers back to school activities, learning programs for Carson City area kids

The Carson City location at 1870 Russell Way is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with dozens of hands-on programs. Spots inside the building are limited to 135 kids each day, but countless activities will be held throughout the year.
Historic Carson City ‘Lamplighter’ bar reopens following renovations, new ownership

Now the bar that was most recently known as Tommy’s Neighborhood Bar has reverted to its old name, and Mathwig is dedicated to bringing back historical touches.
