With October designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dozens joined Carson Tahoe Health for its 18th "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness event held Tuesday at Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City, which hosts and sponsors the annual event.

Heading into Wednesday, Oct. 2 events lined up include Coffee with a Cop at Comma Coffee, Walk and Bike to School Day, a public meeting to discuss stormwater rates, art workshops and showings, a Bee City USA meeting at Greenhouse Garden Center, the first gathering of Women Seeking Safety classes at the Salvation Army, family story time at the library, presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren at the Carson City MAC, Salsa dancing and more.

Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City will provide community members the opportunity to join many astronomy lovers around the world in celebrating the Moon this Saturday, Oct. 5.

Heading into Thursday and the final stretch of the work week, it is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area featuring a morning hike along Clear Creek hosted by Muscle Powered, activities at the Carson City Library, western square dancing offered through Carson City Parks and Recreation, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, Ladies' Night Out at Gather, a volunteer information hour and training hosted by Carson City's CASA, a lecture entitled "100 Years Later: The 1919 Transcontinental Military Motor Convoy" featured at the Nevada State Museum, and more.

Daughters of the American Revolution, Battle Born Chapter, and Fort Churchill Society, Children of the American Revolution, celebrated Constitution Week on September 15, 2019 with a gathering featuring guest speaker Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury, whose topic “Rascals and Rebels: Uprisings that Sparked America” described the struggles that changed history.

Coming up on the final stretch of the work week, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019 is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area, including a morning Tahoe Rim Trail hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a Status of Women in Nevada meeting at the Carson Nugget, activities at the library including the first in a series of Job Seeking With Google workshops, plus the first of the three-day Rockabilly Riot car show at Mills Park and more. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

The first Women’s Leadership & Legacy Retreat in Tahoe will be featured Thursday and Friday, Sept. 19-20 at Tahoe Beach Retreat.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019. Events around the capital city include a monthly lunch series at the Nevada State Library featuring author, professor and poet Lindsay Wilson, a Sierra Nevada Forum discussion on Nevada's Native Tribes, past, present and future; heart and vascular screenings through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, archery at Centennial Park, family craft and movie night at Carson City Library and more.

There will be a September 11 memorial event at Mills Park in Carson City this Wednesday. The service will take place at the 911 memorial beginning at 6 p.m. The event is hosted by Carson City Christian Ministerial Fellowship. Guest speakers are Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, Sheriff Ken Furlong, Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon and pastors from local ministry.

Skip the line on the official walk day and instead sign up Tuesday at an early bird registration gathering for the 2019 Northern Nevada Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 21.

The early registration and gathering will take Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 639 Isbell Road, Suite 240 in Reno.

The 2019 Silver State Art Festival is the third annual gathering in Carson City of award-winning gourd artists, painters, photographers, wood, glass and metal artists and from all over the Southwest. The festival runs Sept. 13-15 at Fuji Exhibit Hall, Park & Pavilion in Carson City.

The Tahoe Basin is bear country and natural resource and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to remind residents and visitors to practice proper food storage and trash disposal when living in or visiting bear country. To help spread our message, we’ve launched a new website, TahoeBears.org, where residents and visitors can go to learn everything they need to know about living, visiting and playing responsibly in bear country.

You are invited to join us For our September gathering for lunch and meeting. We will have  a guest speaker David Ruf Horticulturist from Green House Garden Center who will be sharing information and answering questions such as what, where and when to plant flowers and plants in our area.

Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. We're heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with sunny skies and activities throughout the day including day 2 of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, Jazz and Beyond festival performances to complement Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC followed by a classic outdoor movie to boot, "West Side Story." There's also a free creative event: "Community Art Card, Creating Social Circle" at Comma Coffee, Salsa dancing and more. Enjoy the day.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. A festive gathering that celebrates music-themed films arrives in Carson City beginning Tuesday, delivering top-notch features about music and musicians, styles, songwriting and music video making.

The Jukebox International Film Festival is the place music and flicks collide, bringing enthusiasts and artists together from across the country to the capital city for three days, offering free showings, meet-and-greets and more.

It was gathering for the books and the sky. The Carson City Library concluded its Summer Learning Challenge on Saturday by throwing a party. The get-together celebrated youth participating in library activities that focused on space and science themes throughout summer.

The monthly meeting of the Carson Fly Fishing Club will be Tuesday, August 13. Come to our club gathering and meet fellow fishing enthusiasts; listen and learn from guest speakers; enjoy a chance to win a prize in the raffle; hear the latest fishing stories and much more.

The Pokémon Go Carson City group joined forces with Fallon, Fernley, Sparks, Reno and South Lake Tahoe Pokémon Go groups to hold the first Northern Nevada All Community Day event — and the biggest community day yet for Carson City — bringing more than 150 enthusiasts to Mills Park on Saturday for competition and prizes, food and family fun.
