Speaking at the February 5th Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Library Director Joy Holt, who will provide an update on all of the library's many goings-on, as well as a run-down on some newly-acquired best sellers of special interest.

Joy's resume includes experience as a library aide, library assistant, academic student reference librarian, assistant library director, digital services librarian, assistant to the state librarian and deputy library director.

Speaking at the June 5th Democratic luncheon will be Carson City library director Joy Holt. She will catch us up on all of library's many doings, and is prepared to consider suggestions from the audience for even more doings.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Librarian Joy Holt, who assumed the position on October 1st after serving several months as acting director. Her predecessor, Tod Colegrove, is now dean of the Albertsons Library at Boise State.

Reverend Dr. Gary Robert Buchanan, local composer, conductor, Sonatherapist, minister at the International Community of Christ, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 16, 2020, after a year-long fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife Amanda Buchanan, sons Bradley Buchanan of Ventura, California, and Kym Buchanan of Wisconsin, daughter Amy Buchanan-Rodriquez of Reno, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The famous Awful Awful Burger was created by Dick Graves at the Carson Nugget on March 1, 1954. Dick Graves opened the Carson Nugget Casino and served the first Awful Awful Burger for only 55 cents on opening day of the Carson Nugget.

One of her favorite quotes is from French dramatist Jean Marie Lucien Pierre Anouilh, who said, “Things are beautiful if you love them,” and Hannah Etchison, Carson High’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program Coordinator, loves people, loves Carson City, and said, “I wanted to help in the community that raised me.”

Solitude is an essential component to good health and well-being, so they say, but too much solitude, let me tell you, can be burdensome. I cite solitary confinement as the cruelest of punishments. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

It's a Holiday Treat for all and a feast of seasonal and holiday entertainment in many styles. The Carson City Symphony and Carson Chamber Singers, joined by the Victorian Dancers, present the 36th annual Holiday Treat concert this Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center.
