Carson City Health and Human Services reports Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020 that there are 32 new cases and 51 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 8,787, with 4,220 recoveries and 106 deaths; 4,461 cases remain active.

Carson City, Douglas County offer curbside Christmas tree recycling

Carson City and Douglas County are again participating in a statewide Christmas tree recycling effort. As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of several drop off locations.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Supreme Court Justice Mark Gibbons will be retiring from the Nevada Supreme Court in January 2021, capping a nearly 24-year career as a member of Nevada’s judiciary. Justice Gibbons was first elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 2002, making him the longest serving of the high court’s current seven members.

Carson City is pleased to offer Christmas Tree Recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation/Waste Management, Inc.

As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of the drop off locations. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch. This program continues to be a huge success.

Please remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases prior to recycling; if the tree is longer than six feet, cut the tree into pieces.

Court rules in favor of Lyon County church, stops state from imposing further capacity limits on churches

A three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unanimously Tuesday in favor of a Lyon County church that argued Gov. Steve Sisolak's pandemic restrictions on places of worship were a violation of the First Amendment, reversing a lower court's ruling and prohibiting Sisolak from imposing further restrictions on churches.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

Carson City health officials fight two battles: one against COVID-19, another against misinformation

In our region, as well as in many areas across the country, there have been massive spikes in COVID-19 transmissions over the past few months. Even as restaurants and bars were reopened, daily positive cases were generally staying within single digits inside the Quad-County region.

However, between October and December, both test positivity rates as well as overall cases — and deaths — have seen a massive increase. Local health organizations are now not only fighting against the disease, but against misinformation campaigns as well.
