Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of March 27 through April 2, 2017. Lane closures or restrictions are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work. Please use caution.

Acting District Director Ben Raju of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Nevada District Office reminded Nevada businesses and residents on Friday of the April 24, 2017, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for property damage caused by the severe winter storms, flooding and mudslides in northern Nevada that occurred Jan. 5-14, 2017.

With river levels expected to rise in the weeks and months ahead, the Lyon County Board of Commissioners approved a declaration of emergency on Thursday for all of Lyon County in preparation for potential flooding from spring and summer snow melt run off.

FRIDAY:

CARSON CITY, NV – Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Tuesday that U.S. 95 south of Fallon will be closed this Thursday, March 9 through Friday, March 17 as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs additional drainage culverts to help protect the roadway during monumental local flood mitigation efforts.

With early January floods and mudslides from winter storms being declared a disaster for much of northern Nevada, the damage assessment, and repairs are now underway.

Almost two months of closure came to an end Saturday as the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City reopened to the public following water damage caused by January flooding.

What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. The Shrine Circus is in Reno, Girl Scout Cookies are on sale, and we inch closer to the longer days and shorter nights of Spring. SATURDAY:

Caltrans is advising motorists to expect delays on U.S. Highway 50 in El Dorado County for emergency repair work in three locations.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City will reopen Saturday, March 4, with free weekend admission for all.
The museum has been closed since Jan. 8 due to significant damage from floodwaters that inundated the property, damaging the tracks, fire roads and a number of buildings.

UPDATE 5:05PM: Lyon County officials advise the immediate threat from the retention basin is over. Water is still flowing in the drainages but no property or structures are threatened at this time. No evacuations were ordered and there are no reported injuries or fatalities.

Lyon County Manager Jeff Page recently announced to the Board of Commissioners his recommendations to reduce the effects of flash flooding and river flooding in Central Lyon County.

Those rain drops around Carson City this morning may turn into snow flakes, with the potential for some of them to stick, according to the National Weather Service. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon today for much of the valley region including Carson City, Douglas County and Virginia City.

There are no school delays or closures to report in Carson City Tuesday morning, according to the Carson City School District web site.

With flooding possible in parts of northern Nevada Monday into Tuesday, residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with what to do before, during and after a flood.

Another atmospheric river is headed our way today through Tuesday bringing periods of torrential rain and strong winds to Carson City, the valley areas and several feet of snow to the Sierra and Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service.

Flood related activities at the following locations are underway. Renewed flooding issues due to Monday and Tuesday's storms will be addressed by Public Works. Please use caution near work crews:

— Kings Canyon Road from Longview Way to end of pavement
— Rhodes Street from Curry Street west
— Conestoga Drive near Grumman Drive

A powerful winter storm associated with a strong atmospheric river will bring gusty winds and very heavy precipitation to the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas and deep snow to the upper Sierra tonight through late Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE 8AM: Less than 10 days after Nevada Gov. Sandoval sent a letter to President Donald Trump asking for federal assistance due to flooding in early January, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has responded to the call.

Due to recent storms and flood events, several parks, trails and open spaces throughout Carson City have sustained more than $2,000,000 in damage, according to city officials.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Carson City, Carson Valley, the greater Reno area and Virginia City effective Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.

Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. A series of storms will continue to push through the Carson City and Sierra on Friday, with a brief break Saturday and then the arrival of significant precipitation beginning late Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

WEDNESDAY:

MINDEN — Douglas County, emergency officials continue to focus on assessment and recovery efforts as the flood waters subside. However, the region is expected to see more dangerous weather in the coming days.

Dry weather over western Nevada, Carson City and Sierra will continue over the next couple days with more storms headed our way into next weekend and possibly beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

The gauge height of the Carson River is beginning to drop. We can expect to see high flows for a few days as the flood plain upstream begins to recede back into the river. We may get additional precipitation later in the week.

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday evening at 6:10 p.m. in the 900 block of East Musser Street for suspicion of misdemeanor embezzlement, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.
