A Dayton man was arrested Monday for suspicion of attempted robbery that ended with the suspect giving himself up, a Carson City sheriff's arrest report states.

Reverend Dr. Gary Robert Buchanan, local composer, conductor, Sonatherapist, minister at the International Community of Christ, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 16, 2020, after a year-long fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife Amanda Buchanan, sons Bradley Buchanan of Ventura, California, and Kym Buchanan of Wisconsin, daughter Amy Buchanan-Rodriquez of Reno, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Judicial candidates Ozzie Fumo and Bonnie Bulla will be the featured speakers at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon. Fumo, Nevada State Assemblyman for District 21 in Las Vegas, is running for Nevada Supreme Court, Seat D. National Forest trails, trailheads, beaches and other day-use areas in the Lake Tahoe Basin have now reopened for day-use only as of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. Camping and overnight stays will not be permitted, and campgrounds will remain closed. Resorts will reopen for day-use only. Emergency Fire Restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30. RENO — At a special Nevada System of Higher Education meeting held Thursday, the Board of Regents announced the appointment of former Gov. Brian Sandoval as the University of Nevada, Reno’s next president. He becomes the first Hispanic and 17th president of the 146-year-old University.

Gov. Sandoval, who is currently a Distinguished Fellow of Law and Leadership at UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law among other endeavors, will begin Oct. 5, 2020 and serve a 4-year contract.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board of Directors on Wednesday approved abatements for Google (Design, LLC) in Storey County and Lithium Nevada Corp. that will result in $1.1 billion in investments and the creation of 163 permanent jobs and 5,300 construction jobs.

Lyon County School District’s Superintendent Wayne Workman has been named Nevada Superintendent of the Year by the Nevada Association of School Superintendents. Former Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas L. Steffen died peacefully from natural causes on Sept. 1, 2020 in Hendersonville, TN. He was 90. Steffen served on the Nevada Supreme Court from 1982 until his retirement in 1997.

The Class of 2020-2021, while practicing social distancing and wearing the latest fashion in face masks, gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 4 on the bleachers of the CHS football field to watch their sun rise.
