Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of jam-packed activities over the next three days. Events include the 100th annual Candy Dance in Genoa, the Carson City Community Center Garage Sale, free walks at Nevada State Parks, Virginia City’s Street Vibrations Fall Rally, the 31st annual All-Breed Dog Shows, The Beatles Flashback tribute band concert and much more!

Good day Carson City and welcome to Sunday, Sept. 22. 2019. Activities in the pipeline include a Muscle Powered bike ride, Dayton Valley Days street festival and pet parade, the final Chautauqua of the 2019 Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park festival season, Carson City Chapter of Raider Nation's Game Watch at Jimmy Gs, a history walk at Genoa's Mormon Station State Historic Park, A V&T train ride and more. Homecoming, first seen in 1911 at the University of Missouri, is a wonderful event celebrated throughout the US at high schools and colleges. Homecoming is more than just a football game, it encompasses multiple celebratory events such as bonfires, tailgate parties, dances, and the crowning of a King and Queen. Fall is in the air in Carson City, and a change in the weather was one more reason for kids and adults alike to get out and celebrate this year’s Disney themed Happiest Homecoming on Earth.

Saturday, September 21

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Rockabilly Riot car show, Dayton Valley Days, a pancreatic cancer awareness walk at Silver Oak Golf Course, the annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Facility, horse endurance races in Virginia City, history talks at Mormon Station Park and much more!

The 31st annual Dayton Valley Days kicks off this weekend with a street festival, food booths, plenty of games for kids, a host of family entertainment options including gold panning, ghost tours, a vehicle show and shine, chili cook-off, Sunday pet parade and more.

Coming up on the final stretch of the work week, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019 is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area, including a morning Tahoe Rim Trail hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a Status of Women in Nevada meeting at the Carson Nugget, activities at the library including the first in a series of Job Seeking With Google workshops, plus the first of the three-day Rockabilly Riot car show at Mills Park and more. Tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019 at 7 p.m. Carson High School Theatre Arts will show Wednesday Night Live in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. This is an annual show consisting of lots of laughs, and good fun. Feeling down? Come tonight, and we'll make sure to cheer you up!
Show time is 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 each. Be there!

The upcoming Board of Supervisor’s meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

On the table for discussion are grant funding for the Sheriff’s Office, a new public guardian, and several new subdivision discussions.

The public is welcome to the first ever "Gandy Dance" to celebrate the Gandy: also known as a railroad maintenance worker. 1800's music by the Pickett's Charge Band, dance lessons, Story Telling, Gandy spiking demonstration, Quilters, finger foods, 1800's games, unique Silent Auction items, train simulator, model Depot Tours and more.

This event supports the Historical Society of Dayton Valley's (HSDV) restoration of the historic 1881 Carson & Colorado Railroad Depot.

Deal hunters and bargain shoppers will be there, and now Carson City organizers want to secure those sellers ahead of time before the big Saturday event later this month.

Friday Sept. 13, no bad luck on this day, beginning at 1:18 p.m. was an assembly in the Big Gym during the last class of the day as an introduction to CHS’ Happiest Homecoming on Earth. Leadership students led the assembly with the first activity being the introduction of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates who made their grand entrance onto the floor.

Presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders visited Carson City Friday and hosted a Town Hall in the gymnasium of the Carson City Community Center.

The senator spoke on several topics including health care, Wall Street, the criminal justice system, and more.

Sen. Bernie Sanders will return to Nevada on Friday, Sept. 13 to host a town hall in Carson City, followed by a rally at the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

Heading into Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, events around the capital city region include a morning hike at Lake Tahoe, a Healthy Communities meeting in Virginia City, a cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles that will make a stopover at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, activities at the Carson City Library, book author presentations at the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Brewery Arts Center, food trucks at Mills Park and more. VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties September breakfast meeting is on Thursday, Sept 12 at 9am at the Storey County Community Center in Virginia City.

Guest speakers this month are Ginger Paulsen from Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, and Robin Reedy from state of Nevada chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

Moving into Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, there's another chance for thunderstorms headed our way and then a bit of a cool down going into the weekend. Looking around the capital city Thursday there's a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, auditions for V&T Railway's Polar Express, art showings, a host of activities at the Carson City Library, a Muscle Powered morning hike and more.

The Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Carson City Airport Authority. The Airport Authority is a 7 member board that oversees all matters pertaining to the Carson City airport.

Saturday, August 31

The upcoming Board of Supervisor’s meeting will be held Sept. 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, and they’ll be discussing potential purchases and contracts, appointments to the Historic Resources Commission, requests from the Carson City Airport Authority and Public Works, community planning, and more.

Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space is pleased to announce our 3rd Annual BOO-nanza Halloween event on Tuesday, October 29th.

Last year, approximately 1000 children participated and we expect a bigger crowd this year. In an effort to create a safe and family friendly Halloween experience, Carson City Park, Recreation & Open Space has partnered with the Carson City Library. The Community Center will be opened for trick or treating, haunted house, and outdoor carnival.

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

Silver City Labor Day Weekend Rummage Sale! On Saturday, August 31 from 8 am to 3 pm in the Silver City Park there will be a town rummage sale to raise funds for the Comstock Residents Association.

Carson High School Principal Gavin Ward stood at the north entrance high-fiving students as they entered high school, some of them for the first time. In fact, counselors, teachers, and other administrators stood at each of the school entrances welcoming students to the best high school in the state, hyperbole aside.

The next Carson City School Board Meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street beginning at 7 p.m.

Jukebox International Film Festival, which celebrates music and film, begins its last day of its 3-day run at noon today, Thursday, at the Carson City Community Center.

The day will kick off with a block of music videos, then go right into the pictured films. Another panel discussion concerning copyrights, licensing and other legal matters will be at 4 p.m. The festival concludes with an awards presentation at 9 p.m.

Coming up on Thursday, August 22, 2019, we can expect continued sunny skies with a daytime near 90. Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. UPDATE: Fire officials said Thursday the Canyon Fire is 40 percent contained and burned around 440-acres. Full containment is expected by Saturday.

UPDATE 10:33PM: Evacuations have been lifted for residents east of Canyon Drive but the evacuation center remains open. Firefighters will continue to fight the Canyon Fire through the evening, according to the Douglas County government Twitter feed. The fire is estimated at 1,500 acres.

UPDATE 4:26PM: The Bureau of Land Management reports via Twitter that the Canyon Fire near Topaz Ranch Estates in south Douglas County is estimated at around 300 acres. Voluntary evacuations are underway. Multiple resources are responding.

A brush fire that erupted Wednesday afternoon in south Douglas County near Topaz Ranch Estate in the Minnehaha Canyon area has firefighters from surrounding agencies, including Carson City, responding.

The acting workshop today, Wednesday at Jukebox International Film Festival, in its second day now at Carson City Community Center, just got better. The current VP of Screen Actors Guild, Darrin Miller, will be presenting with workshop leaders Ryan Adams and Alex Emanuel. This is a must-attend event, only available this one time. Admission is $5, and the workshop starts at 2:30 in the Bonanza Room at the Community Center, 851 East William Street.
