This is kind of Phase 3a, since all they're going to do right now is build the bridges at Koontz and Clearview, and grade parts of the roadbed along Edmonds. But they've been working on all that for a month, and it's coming along nicely.

NHP: Driver killed in road racing event on Saturday in Storey County
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/28/2010 - 1:46pmA 37-year-old Las Vegas man was killed in a road racing accident in Storey County on Saturday.
Alexander Djordjevic died at the scene after he lost control of his Porsche 911 during a sanctioned road racing event north of the Storey and Lyon county lines, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The 5.2-mile stretch of the two-lane highway had been closed to the public for two days between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday to facilitate a sanctioned road racing event, according to an NHP press statement.

Lane closures are expected to occur on Highway 395 between Clear Creek Avenue and Clearview Drive during the night hours of 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., June 29-30, due to work on the median.
As a result of the next phase of the Nevada Department of Transportation project on the freeway, Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.
Nevada State Prison Closure To Wait For More Information, July Prison Board Meeting

Jim Gibbons said today that he will continue to authorize transfers of inmates for safety and security reasons.

Carson City man faces felony false imprisonment, burglary and conspiracy charges
Submitted by editor on Tue, 06/22/2010 - 12:57pmA Carson City man faces multiple felony charges after he was arrested without incident on June 18, following crimes allegedly committed on June 16.
Nyle Anthony Silva, 23, is being held on felony burglary, false imprisonment, and conspiracy charges; and misdemeanor battery and violation of bail conditions charges. Bail has been set at $79,000.
According to the arrest report, on June 18 at about 4 a.m. officers responded to the area of David Street and Stewart Avenue attempting to locate Silva, who was wanted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
FDIC: Reno-based Nevada Security Bank fails, Oregon Umpqua Bank to take over

Gov. Gibbons Announces Plan To Phase Out And Close Nevada State Prison In Capital

“It costs taxpayers an extra $4,000 to $6,000 per inmate for prisoners at NSP because the facility is so old and poorly designed,� Gibbons said. “Additionally, NSP is not as safe for prison staff as other facilities.�

Carson City man faces charges after allegedly punching girlfriend in the face in front of daughters
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/14/2010 - 3:48pmA Carson City man faces a felony probation violation charge and a charge of domestic battery after he allegedly pushed and punched his girlfriend in front of his 16-year-old daughter and the victim's 14-year-old daughter.
According to a Carson City sheriff's arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of Roop Street on Sunday morning at around 2:30 a.m. to meet with the victim. Carson Now will not publish the name of the suspect because the two children are tied to the investigation.

Fumes from pigeon pest control in air ducts caused Carson City office to close
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/07/2010 - 9:19amThe State Division of Insurance office was reopened at 7 this morning after being closed Friday when a number of employees became sick. Employees were told that a grape seed extract had been used in the air ducts to eradicate pigeons.
A spokeswoman with the division confirmed the building was closed because of pest control, performed by a cleaning crew, because of pigeons in the air ducts. The department of Business and Industry closed the building at around 11 a.m. on Friday, sending employees home.
