Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival, a bluegrass festival at Bowers Mansion, Celtic favorites at the BAC, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides, standup comedy at the Carson Nugget, a block party at Silver Oak Golf Course, a Boy Scouts car show at Fuji Park, "'Kutz for Kids' and more.

Hello fellow anglers, Just returned from a couple weeks of fishing from our local area to the Rogue River Valley in Oregon. The day we arrived, they had a wild fire that started at 200 acres and by the next day it was over 10,000. Grants pass was smokey and hard to breath, so Renee, my cousin Steve and I ventured to Brookings OR to do some salmon fishing.

CARSON CITY — The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has joined three other Western public utility Commissions in signing a joint action framework that addresses climate change through cooperation to reduce greenhouse gas pollution.

National Night Out, one of Carson City’s largest summer celebrations, is returning Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mills Park for its 17th year. And by all indications, it will be the biggest yet.

National Night Out is a way for residents to meet those who serve and protect our community as well as agencies that provide services, especially in areas of public health and safety. Agencies such as Search and Rescue, Health and Human Services, Care Flight, Advocates to End Domestic Violence, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Fire Department, Nevada Highway Patrol, Department of Wildlife, agency advocates and dozens more.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a couple Saturday at a Carson City motel they had been living in for suspicion of felony child abuse/neglect and drug possession.

The Carson City Health Department's inspections this week returned with eight Carson City businesses in violation of health and safety codes. Scores of 0 with no violations translate to full compliance with health department food safety codes.

STATELINE — Boat inspectors recently prevented two vessels from launching at Lake Tahoe and other regional lakes, after discovering infestations of aquatic invasive species. During mandatory inspections in Meyers and Truckee, Calif., inspectors found invasive mussels on both boats.

As we head into the final stretch of the week, events around the Carson City region are lined up for the next three days, including museum activities, outdoor concerts, a car cruise Friday at Carson Mall, athletic events, a Carson High School class of 1979 reunion, the Taste of Downtown on Saturday and much more.

On Tuesday, Nevada joined the “Nation’s Clean Car Promise,” a coalition of 24 bipartisan governors representing 52 percent of the U.S. population and 57 percent of the economy, working together to support a strong national clean car standard.

Shoe Tree Brewing Co. in Carson City received two Bronze Medals at the U.S Open Beer Championship held in Oxford, Ohio. Breweries from Russia to Rhode Island sent in more than 7,000 beers representing over 130 different styles for the 2019 U.S. Open Beer Championship.

More than 300 volunteers stepped up to clean up Lake Tahoe beaches the day after the July 4 celebration, collecting more than 1,875 pounds of litter that would have otherwise harmed the lake's fragile ecosystem.

Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

On Saturday evening July 20, Carson Street in Carson City will transform into a huge block party attracting thousands of partiers and foodies who want to sample new foods, enjoy locally produced brews, be entertained, and meet up with old friends.

Last Saturday morning 15 intrepid Carson City area "Trash Mobbers" came out to clean up the wetlands to protect the birds and wildlife. We met near the Humane Society on Airport and then walked along the Carson Freeway Multi-Use two thirds of mile to access the wetlands area.

The Carson City Airport will once again be hosting its Open House and Fly-In this Saturday, June 29 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with all proceeds going to benefit the Eagle Valley Children’s Home.

This year, the annual festivity is adding a new kind of wing to the mix: chicken wings, with a Chicken Wing Cook-Off Challenge.

As part of the Lake Tahoe Aquatic Invasive Species Program, Eyes on the Lake is returning through the fall. Learn how to identify and report aquatic invasive plants found in Tahoe’s lakes and streams and help Keep Tahoe Blue.

CARSON CITY — Every week at DeBug Computer, we receive reports from community members who have been scammed into giving money to both cyber and telemarketing frauds, some for thousands of dollars, sometimes under the pretense that the victim has “won” a prize or money, and simply needs to pay a processing fee. Or that a loved one is in danger, and they must transfer money immediately to help them.

Hello Carson City. It is Thursday, June 13, 2019. After last night's thunderstorms that shook around the capital city we're looking at plenty of sunshine today with a daytime high around 86. Activities lined up include workshops, an anniversary party and showing at Artsy Fartsy art gallery, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, a Kiwanis Club meeting and Chamber annual meeting at The Martin Hotel, Cruise Night at Bully's Sports Bar, live music outdoors at Living the Good Life and more. In addition to “Wheeled Food Wednesdays,” Carson City will now have even more opportunity to sample their favorite mobile dining establishments with the inaugural Food Truck Thursday event at Mills Park, beginning tomorrow, June 13.

Fire season is upon us, and while the high temperatures may have come a little late this year, the wet winter and cool temperatures also created a perfect growing situation for fast acting fuels such as cheat grass.

Last year, our community watched with sadness and horror at the Camp Fire and Butte Fire that destroyed our western neighbor communities in California. Those fires, it has now been revealed, were caused by PG&E power lines combined with quick acting, dry fuels.

The question we've wondered is "can this tragedy happen here?" Especially after last fire season, with a number of local fires being related in some way to NV Energy power lines.
