Happy Saturday, Carson City! Are you feeling in the holiday spirit yet? Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and soon after it will be the season of jingle bells, red fur hats, ugly sweaters and snow!

Even though valley rain and Sierra snow happen this time of year, we're in for a brief change after going weeks without any precipitation. Enjoy the changeup. Activities around the capital city Tuesday include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a Carson City Republican Women's Club luncheon honoring our veterans, a kindergarten open house at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School, a safety presentation for older adults presented by Carson City TRIAD; fitness and swing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, Art Night Out at the Carson City Library and more.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety recently appointed Anne Carpenter as Chief of the Parole and Probation Division. Carpenter officially took command in June 2019. The previous Chief, Natalie Wood, retired in May of 2019.

CARSON CITY — Meals on Wheels Carson City joins the 2019 Subaru Share the Love event as a member of Meals on Wheels America — one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the campaign. From Nov. 14, 2019, through Jan. 2, 2020, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.

A 27-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of indecent exposure in an incident that allegedly happened in front of children and customers at an East William Street store, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Events for the day include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, Fall job fairs hosted by Nevada JobConnect and the Carson Nugget, the 3rd annual "BOO-nanza" celebration at the Carson City Community Center and library, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs and more.

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is pleased to announce this year’s Triumphant: Celebrating Women in Leadership Dinner honorees. Six women, each representing one of the six Girl Scout focus areas, will be recognized at the 17th annual awards dinner on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

Going into Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 more sunny skies and warm fall temperatures will continue to shine on the capital city as we prepare for the Nevada Day weekend. Ahead Tuesday include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a "haunted" cemetery tour at Lone Mountain, a business networking meeting at Casino Fandango and the Fat Tuesday business networking group at Carson Nugget, archery at Centennial Park and more. The Carson City Emblem Club No. 507 invites the community to a craft fair this Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Elks Lodge. Among items available will be jewelry, handmade crafts, Halloween and Christmas items, quilts and much more.

Heading into Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, it will be a busy day ahead around the capital city including a Carson City Chamber of Commerce luncheon with Nevada's chief economist, a GOP Women's Club luncheon with Nevada State Senator James Settelmeyer, Sierra Lutheran will host its 7th and 8th Grade Visitation Day, plus a morning walk, evening hike with Muscle Powered, archery at Centennial Park, art night at the library and more. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the final V&T Railway train rides of the 2019 season, the 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School, fundraisers around town, coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum, comedy at the Carson Nugget and more!

Going into the second week of October, there's plenty of events around the capital city for this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 including a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered. There's also art showings, the grand opening of Carson City's Postal Annex, family movie night at the Carson City Library featuring "Muppets from Space," as well as Big Band jazz music with a fall theme at Living the Good Life and more. Enjoy the day.

Heading into Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and a high near 80. Events around the capital city include a discussion on wild horses, the first of a six-week standup comedy class, art showings, West Coast swing dancing and more. Enjoy the day.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Laura Leigh, President of Wild Horse Education, a 501(c)(3) registered public charity. She has been involved in anti-slaughter issues for more than two decades, carrying on the work pioneered by Velma Johnston (1912-1977), who came to be known as "Wild Horse Annie" for her fight to gain federal protection of wild horses and burros.

Many types of people make up the fabric of Carson City and in my quest to learn why people are CarsonProud, I enjoy going to the many wonderful events that seem to be held every weekend. I recently attended the the 50th Anniversary of the Nevada Historical Society where time stood still for a moment or two as artists came together at the historical Foreman-Roberts House to showcase talents that have withstood the test of time.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of jam-packed activities over the next three days. Events include the 100th annual Candy Dance in Genoa, the Carson City Community Center Garage Sale, free walks at Nevada State Parks, Virginia City’s Street Vibrations Fall Rally, the 31st annual All-Breed Dog Shows, The Beatles Flashback tribute band concert and much more!

David Wise, age 82, passed away on August 29, 2019. Dave was a 2nd generation Nevadan born in Carson City on July 14, 1937 to Roy and Lynn (Stewart) Wise. He was an amazing man who loved life, he was easy going, caring, funny, loving, and always had the most positive attitude. He was always smiling, even in the end.

He was so well liked, loved by others and had so many friends who thought highly of him. He loved his family and his extended family who just simply became his family.

The Carson City Republican Party and Carson Guns will partner to host.

At the monthly Carson City Airport Authority meeting of the board, the Authority presented Donna Clarke, executive director of the Eagle Valley Children's Home, a check in the amount of $3,963.61 to establish an endowment in the name of the Carson City Airport Authority to support the mission of the children's home.

Chambered for Charity, an unincorporated non-profit, invites community members to sign up for the first Aim to Cure Sporting Clays Shoot on Sept. 21, 2019 at the Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City, Nev.

Chambered for Charity was formed by the women of two local Reno companies, Legacy Sports International and Reno Cerakote. Their mission is “to enhance the lives of others through charitable donations while promoting the safe, responsible use of firearms.”
