As part of Tesla’s K-12 Investment Fund, the Carson City School District is pleased to announce it is the most recent recipient of nearly a million dollars in grant funding. The money will help fund a district-wide sustainability initiative for the next three years.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Recognition will come at Tuesday’s school board meeting. NBCT is widely considered to be the highest professional recognition for educators and includes a five percent pay increase in acknowledgement of accomplished teaching.

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, along with a new program designed to lend a helping hand to qualifying individuals who want to better their lives, are now considering refurbishing the entire property.

The Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is pleased to announce twenty-three graduates, from fifteen NV agencies, will accept their peace officers’ oath as POST Academy Class 2019-02.

Mechatronics training in the Automation and Industrial Technology Center at Western Nevada College went international last week. Nevada System of Higher Education’s new and unique partnership with higher education institutions in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, began in earnest this week as a group of instructors visit WNC to participate in the accelerated Siemens Mechatronics certification program.

While volunteers of the Carson City Sheriff’s Search and Rescue unit are available 24-hours a day to help those in need, this Wednesday evening Firehouse Subs will be making itself available to assist the Search and Rescue unit with a fundraiser.

Heading into the first day of the work week, if you're an early, early riser or are settling in for the night, you'll want to step outside at around 3 a.m. for the peak of the Perseid shower, which will be in the eastern sky. If you missed them, there will be a viewing party hosted by Carson City Parks and Rec at the Jack C. Davis Observatory at WNC beginning at midnight Tuesday morning, August 13. This American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course will provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants. This training will help participants develop leadership skills, develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe, understand children from ages 0 to 10, help children and infants with daily needs, help children with their behavior, and become fully certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.

The Association of School Business Officials International is pleased to announce Andrew Feuling, SFO, director of fiscal services for the Carson City School District, has earned the Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations. School business professionals who earn the SFO certification have proven that they have the required knowledge, expertise and fiscal credibility to lead their school district and effectively manage the district’s finances. Feuling is the only SFO in the state of Nevada.

CARSON CITY — Forty-five Carson High School seniors have earned the nationally recognized National Career Readiness Certificate. The assessment is designed to measure students’ career readiness as they prepare to enter the workforce by assessing their abilities in three core areas: applied mathematics, locating information and reading for information.

Graduating with a single academic degree is a commendable accomplishment for any college student, given the time, dedication and sacrifices that are required. But for Western Nevada College student Todd Minto of Carson City, one degree is barely scratching the surface of his academic prowess.

The Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training announced Wednesday that 24 graduates from 16 agencies from around the Silver State will accept their peace officers’ oath as the POST Academy Class 2019-01.
