Hello fellow anglers, Not really the right weather to go fishing recently. But us die hards will get out there no matter what. Before we get to some reports, I would like to put a few rumors and report to rest.

UPDATE 8:40PM: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports one lane of northbound I-580 is now open north of the Bowers Mansion exit. Traffic is moving slowly past the scene of the fatal crash. NHP urges motorists to watch for first responders and drive with extreme caution.

UPDATE 8:06PM: Nevada Highway Patrol troopers remain on scene Thursday night at the fatal crash on the Galena Bridge. There are approximately 10-15 vehicles involved with one confirmed fatality. There is not an estimated time for reopening northbound I-580. NHP advises motorists to use alternate routes.

Northbound Interstate 580 at mile marker 12 in Washoe County near the Galena Bridge is closed Thursday night due to a fatal crash at the Bowers Mansion exit, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

MINDEN — Douglas County has been responding to several reports of minor flooding in the Carson Valley. We have also seen water and minor debris on the roadways in many areas. Douglas County Emergency Management continues to survey the area along with Douglas County road crews and law enforcement.

Retention basins around Carson City have been holding their own during the course of this week's storms, including the most visible ones near North Carson Street and Nye Lane. The basins will see more water as another storm system approaches.

Continued rain on melting snow has prompted the National Weather Service to issue an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory on Thursday morning for Carson City, Douglas, Southern Washoe, Northern Lyon and Storey counties.

Carson City Public works reports moderate flooding Wednesday afternoon over roadways where storm drains are blocked by snow and ice.

The National Weather Service in Reno issued a Flood Advisory on Wednesday afternoon for western Carson City, Douglas County, southern Washoe County and other areas of the region including South Lake Tahoe.

Carson City Public Works crews are spending Wednesday assessing drain inlets and opening storm drains as the brunt of a winter storm is expected to bring drenching rain and high winds to the valley region and feet of snow in the high Sierra.

Slick, icy conditions exist for the morning commute around Carson City Wednesday. The Nevada Department of Transportation has posted chains or snow tires required for the following roadways:

The Consolidated Municipality of Carson City is advising residents and visitors in the Nevada state capital to limit travel on city streets and roadways.

Snow-covered roads throughout the region have resulted in travel restrictions for the Tuesday morning commute.

Several motor vehicle accidents in Carson City have kept Carson City Sheriff's deputies and firefighter-paramedics busy Monday morning responding to spin-outs, rear-enders and t-bone crashes.

Snow covered roadways in and around Carson City Monday morning may have a layer of ice underneath, so motorists should drive with caution on their commute into, out of or around the Nevada state capital this morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect Sunday night through Monday morning for the greater Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley areas while a Winter Storm Warning in effect at Lake Tahoe and in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

The Carson City School District will start classes today, Wednesday at the regular time. The district says to expect winter driving conditions with temperatures that will melt snow. The district urges motorists to please take caution and provide adequate time for travel.

Hello fellow anglers, Fishing at Topaz Lake is off to a good start for 2019. The weather cooperated, with the only drawback was that the morning temperature on Jan. 1 was 9 degrees at 6:30 a.m. But warmed up to a nice 38 for a high.

More snow accumulation is expected around Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory.

The greater Carson City area was greeted with snow on the ground Sunday morning, with more on the way overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Hello fellow anglers, I hope Santa was good to you. We are within a few days of the Topaz Lake opener, which is this Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. The water level is coming up, but still down from last year's opener.

UPDATE 5:13PM: Slick road conditions and multiple spinouts are being reported by the Nevada Highway Patrol during the Tuesday evening commute. The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and take extra caution when driving. The snow is expected to end before the morning commute, but roads may remain slippery. The weather service Winter Weather Advisory was activated late this afternoon due to snow arriving earlier than expected.

Between 2 to 4 inches of snow expected overnight Tuesday into Wednesday around Carson City and Western Nevada has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for the region.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno for the greater Reno, Carson City and Minden Area, including Sparks, Gardnerville, and Virginia City.

Robbie Sikes is the superintendent of the Empire Ranch Golf Course, and he is sick and tired of geese.

“On any given day when I get in, there are at least a thousand geese out on the greens,” said Sikes. “I’ve tried everything. The repellent doesn’t seem to do anything. People said get a dog to chase them, but I’ve got a lab who chases them every morning and they only fly up in the air and land in the ponds.”

As winter weather arrives in the Silver State, the Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada Highway Patrol remind motorists to stay focused, slow down, prepare for rapidly changing conditions and leave plenty of room between your vehicle and others.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit began the sale of Christmas tree permits on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest have been available since Nov. 1.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada Highway Patrol are reminding motorists to drive attentively and slow down and move over for traffic response vehicles during National Traffic Incident Response Awareness Week, held Nov. 11-17.

CARSON CITY — Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Highway Patrol along with the Departments of Transportation and Public Safety are reminding drivers and pedestrians to be especially safe and vigilant this Halloween Wednesday and every day.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is asking travelers in the area of Boyer Lane in Stagecoach to use caution due to an active brush fire that erupted Thursday afternoon.
