Welcome to Halloween and the last day of October, Carson City. Today is Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018. Activities today feature trick or treating at the Carson Mall, the Downtown Candy Crawl, a haunted house at Western Nevada College and a harvest festival in the Carson Valley. Have you got your pumpkin yet? They are giving them away today, two per person, first come first serve between 5 and 6 p.m. at Carson Mall in the Boot Barn. There's also a costume hike tonight at Carson River Park.

It's parade day in Carson City, which means a host of Nevada Day activities throughout the state capital all day long.

Of course, the 80th annual Nevada Day Parade is the centerpiece of the Silver State's 154th birthday celebration.

Nevada's celebration of statehood provides for a bevy of activities that showcase the Silver State's best. The Carson Mall Wine Walk is a monthly event held the second Saturday of each month at the Carson Mall, 1313 S. Carson Street in Carson City.

Come on down to the Carson Mall Scare Crow Festival, spanning two Saturdays, Oct. 13 and Oct. 20, from 12-3 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Scarecrows cost $20 per day and pumpkins are $15 each day to decorate.

Make your own scarecrow. We have enough supplies to make over 150 hand-made scarecrows and 100 pumpkins, too.

In the 2006, Roger Brooks, an expert on travel, tourism, downtown branding and destination marketing, was hired by the Visitor’s Bureau to assess some of Carson City’s assets. After spending a few days here, he concluded one of our marketing assets could be our dining scene.

Start the weekend early with some live music for a good cause. Enjoy Greg Austin on the stage at Living the Good Life: there’s no cover, but a portion of tonight’s food and beverage sales will benefit the Swithwick/Francone family.

Hopefest8 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center is a free concert featuring folk/pop singer, Tyrone Wells, bringing awareness and raising funds for local patient resources. The grand prize of their raffle is a brand-new car, so good luck. It’s a birthday bash at Living the Good Life. Wish proprietress, Gina, many happy returns and groove to the sounds of the Trippin’ King Snakes.

Lights, camera, action! The Second annual Jukebox Film Festival begins today at the Carson City Community Center. Two full days of features, documentaries, and short films with music as the uniting theme will be shown at the Carson City Community Center: 30 unique titles representing 29 different filmmakers from countries around the world. Blood Drum Spirit, a jazz band with an African influence, is the focus of one of those films and will be performing for free at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint this evening.
