C-SPAN visits Carson City to capture unique past with historians, authors
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/08/2013 - 6:21pmCarson City Mayor Robert Crowell and invited guests welcomed the 100 million household TV giant C-SPAN and its cable carrier Charter Communications to the steps of the capitol building for the first day of a week-long visit to the capital city.
C-SPAN’s video-journalists aim to capture Carson City’s history and literary journey as told by local historians, published authors and long-time residents. Collected stories will air August 3 and 4 on Charter channels 235 and 236 on C-SPAN’s American History TV and Book TV.
Carson City Library presents 'Making of a Cello' performance, talk July 11

Roop Street in Carson City.
The talk is appropriate for all ages, and admission is free.
Turi Becker’s Duct Tape Wallet Program featured at Carson City Library

Hailing from Reno, NV, Turi is a cataloging librarian for the Washoe County Library System.
Have you ever heard of duct tape prom dresses? Well, we won’t be learning how to make those but we will be making duct tape smallets, or small wallets, with Turi Becker! With a variety of colors available, you can be as creative as you want with designs and pockets! This program is geared toward upper elementary and teens.

This month, Thursday, June 27, the Self Help Forms Completion Clinic will begin at 1:30 p.m. This workshop will provide general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public will also be available.

All adult hardcover books will be 50 cents each and paperbacks will be 25 cents. The sale will be at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop Street, today, Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Carson City residents have chance to make commercial about life-changing moments

Locals will have an opportunity to land a national television commercial spot if they're able to articulate a moment in their life that was truly life-changing.
Traveling more than 7,300 miles, four crewmembers will tour in a custom built 34-foot Airstream trailer designed as a mobile video recording studio. Participants who share their personal aha moments may be featured in a new 30-second television ad, which will begin airing in spring 2014.

Library staff member Una Gauper recently visited the island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Her journey spanned months of travel and adventure. Her large network of extended family provided expert travel guidance as she experienced the culture and explored the landscape.
Nevada Performance Academy enrollment begins Wednesday

In an effort to ensure high quality teaching and learning, and because of predicted space constraints, the Academy will limit first-year enrollment in the blended components of its academic program, which is face-to-face instruction and participation in extracurricular classes.

Carson City Librarian Sara Jones headed for top Marin County job

Sara Jones emerged as the frontrunner among two out-of-county finalists and will be officially appointed to the $150,000-a-year post when Marin County supervisors meet on Tuesday, according to Eric Engelbart, a county administration analyst.

As part of providing this valuable service to members of the community that have low-to-moderate income, the BRIC is collaborating with the Future Business Leaders of America club on campus at Carson High School.

Readers of all ages will learn how to download eBooks and audiobooks from the library through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos. A “gadget gallery” featuring Kindle, iPod touch, Android tablet, NOOK, Sony Reader, Blackberry, Windows Phone, and more will help visitors discover portable devices that are compatible with the library’s download service.

Parents, expecting that their fledgling adult would be anxious to venture out on their own, away from parental rules and prying eyes, have been unpleasantly surprised that movement toward independent living has been slow or even non-existent.
And they are perplexed by the choices their young adult children are making.

Carson City Library Explore the World series focuses on Chile

In Chile, he studied theater at Viña del Mar. He came to the USA in 2010 and lives in Carson City, Nevada. Danilo is working in the culinary arts.
