Muscle Powered weekly bike rides

Event Date:

Meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Road in Carson City, in the south parking lot next to the Linear Ditch Trail.

Ride will normally consist of two loops which are 10-15 miles long each.

The ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but will usually be about a 12-16 mph pace.

This is a "no drop" ride so no one is left behind. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes. Contact Shane Trotter at shane@shanetrotter.net if you have any questions.

One of the first things Johanna Foster did when moving back to Carson City to take care of her mother after retiring as an ecology professor in the Midwest was to join Muscle Powered, the advocacy group to create a more walkable and bikeable community.

Historic Dayton is the place to be. The Annual Dayton Valley Days and Railroad Days features a chili cook-off, pet parade, pinewood derby race, and much more. Join CASI at Riverview Park for the annual 5K9 walk/run and don’t forget to bring your pooch. The Edible Pedal is one of the most delicious bike rides around with 100, 50, or 10 mile courses. This last weekend of August is filled with ways to celebrate your community. Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

Saturdays are meant for easy rides with Muscle Powered, Carson City Parks and Rec

Saturdays, 9:40 am through summer is the kind of organized bike ride for the family. Meet by the Muscle Powered bike rack in front of the Carson City Aquatic Center at 841 N. Roop St.
Bicycle rides will be moderately paced and distance will be at the discretion of the riders. The goal is to develop skills and endurance over time. Riders must wear helmets and closed toed shoes.

Where to start? This weekend is chock-full of options. The local 4-H club is hosting their annual Fabric and Rummage Sale at Fuji Park. The Annual Feast of Chocolate, hosted by AAUW, is Saturday afternoon at the Plaza Event Center. The Vagina Monologues and One Billion Rising are both raising awareness this V-Day weekend for women’s issues.

The weather is warming up providing for another great season activities throughout Carson City and Northern Nevada. One of my favorite things about spring and summer is to share as many local events, food, music, the arts and entertainment with you. We have many festivities, activities and fundraisers being planned for the coming months.

Carson City celebrates Bike Month through May with activities, rides

Muscle Powered, in cooperation with city and state government and local businesses, have an exciting month of activities planned to promote a bicycle friendly community in Carson City.

Community bike rides, commuter challenges, informative bicycle clinics, movies, raffle prizes, parties and more await participants. Bike Month has been celebrated for many years now not only to encourage more bicycling in Carson City, but also to educate cyclists and motorists alike on safety and the rules of the road. Here’s an overview of what’s coming up in May.
