I have a hero whose name is Rosalind Creasy. This landscape designer coined the phrase “edible landscaping” in her first book, The Complete Book of Edible Landscaping first published in 1982 and updated three times since 2010. Since I first read this book, and her Gardener’s Handbook of Edible Plants, I have dreamed of foodscaping our yard.

CARSON CITY — The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, announces its exhibition, "Constellation" at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

Nine students from the University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public from Sept. 16 to Dec. 10, 2019, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Firefighters use ALERTWildfire cameras to monitor, put brakes on potential catastrophic wildfires

RENO — As fire hazard has built through the summer, ALERTWildfire, a network of mountaintop cameras that helps fire managers spot and monitor fires over large swaths of land, has been on a frenzied pace to reach its goal of adding 300 cameras to the network in the western U.S. by the end of the year. In the past three years the network has been involved with nearly 1,000 fires.

Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market brings a haul of items to Carson City

A collection of hidden treasures made its way to the Fuji Park Exhibit in Carson City on Saturday during the Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market.

Several friendly vendors sold dozens of unique items, including antiques, collectibles, plants, jewelry, beauty products and lots of hand crafted items.

We are now in summer, and there are a few things we have to remember.

Bike race, airport open house, live reggae and more: Carson City stacked with all-ages weekend events

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area to help the next three days breeze by. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

The U.S. Open returned to Pebble Beach earlier this month and all the talk was about the par three cliffside 7th hole, a charming peninsula that sticks out into the ocean 100 yards below the tee box, and looks ever so inviting -looks that are deceiving. With a stiff onshore breeze you might want to tee off with a three iron. With no wind, which is rare, you might want a wedge.
