The gate on Ash Canyon Road, located at the trailhead to the Ash to Kings Trail in Ash Canyon in Carson City, will be re-opening starting July 4th weekend.

The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will offer two bicycle programs this summer, one designed for children and the other for adults and teens.

Approximately 1,500 housing units could be coming soon to Carson City

There are currently 21,692 housing units in Carson City, according to the Nevada Rural Housing Authority’s most recent study. There could be an additional 1,500 housing units available in the coming years. The developments range from being under review to now under construction.

National Trails Day 2019: Carson City celebrates its biggest gathering

National Trails Day was last Saturday, June 1 and Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space celebrated by having more than 70 trail builders and supporters along, including Mayor Bob Crowell, making it our biggest National Trails Day event yet.

Carson City to highlight acquisition near Ash Canyon for Saturday's National Trails Day

Come celebrate Carson City’s trails on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 1 at 8 a.m. Carson City will be hosting an event on one of our most recent Open Space acquisitions, 206 acres near Ash Canyon.

Mayor Bob Crowell will say a few words about Carson City’s Open Space program and will be joined by members of the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, the Nevada Land Trust and Muscle Powered.

Careflight called to bicycle accident on Ash Canyon trail Friday

On Friday afternoon just before 1 p.m. Careflight was called to a trail in Ash Canyon behind WNC after a bicyclist was injured.

According to dispatch, the cyclist went over their handlebars while riding and appeared to have neck injuries, as well as chest injuries. They reported the cyclist was having difficulty breathing.

Careflight landed at 1:25 p.m. near the college and the cyclist was transported to Renown.

The Bike Smith, Muscle Powered team up to build Carson City trail

The Bike Smith joined Muscle Powered on Sunday to begin construction of an access trail to one of Carson City’s newest open space properties. Carson City acquired this 206 acre parcel in the Ash Canyon area in 2018.

Join us on our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet at the parking area at the end of Foothill Road, off of N. Winne Lane. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more.

Carson City emergency crews perform rescue in Ash Canyon, second incident in 4 days

In a second incident in Ash Canyon in the past four days, Carson City Fire Department responded late Wednesday afternoon to locate an elderly person suffering a medical condition while hiking in the canyon.
