Nationwide emergency alert test to go out today on mobile phones, TV and radio

The wireless portion of the test, which will be sent to consumer cell phones, will begin at 11:18 a.m. Pacific Time and two minutes later television and radio stations.

Carson City's index reading was 222 and Gardnerville, 272.

Smoke from regional fires has caused the air quality in the Gardnerville area of Douglas County to reach the "hazardous" stage Monday morning, with an Air Quality Index reading of 410, according to AirNow.gov, while Carson City has reached the "unhealthy" stage.

Nevada law enforcement agencies join forces in August for pedestrian safety

Clark County has had 26 pedestrian deaths while Washoe County has had 3 pedestrian deaths. The Nevada Highway Patrol will be Joining Forces with law enforcement statewide from August 6-24, 2018 to enforce pedestrian laws for both drivers and pedestrians.

National Weather Service issues thunderstorm warning for Western Nevada

Dime size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will be possible with this storm. Brief heavy rain is also possible with this storm. Outflow winds could reach as far northwest as South Lake Tahoe.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Officials say mitigation efforts have reduced the hazard of a potential breach in the dam at Little Washoe Lake. There was concern the dam could breach or collapse after a hole was discovered in it.

The Nevada Division of Water Resources reports that after a routine inspection Monday, it was determined the Washoe Lake Dam is in danger of potentially breaching that would cause flooding in the Steamboat Creek and Steamboat Ditch areas.
