Carson Tahoe Health will celebrate its 18th annual Think Pink kick-off for breast cancer awareness on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Red’s Old 395 Grill in Carson City will once again host the event.

The event is free to attend and individuals wearing a Carson Tahoe Think Pink T-shirt, the current one or from any year, will receive free appetizers courtesy of Red’s.

Homecoming, first seen in 1911 at the University of Missouri, is a wonderful event celebrated throughout the US at high schools and colleges. Homecoming is more than just a football game, it encompasses multiple celebratory events such as bonfires, tailgate parties, dances, and the crowning of a King and Queen. Fall is in the air in Carson City, and a change in the weather was one more reason for kids and adults alike to get out and celebrate this year’s Disney themed Happiest Homecoming on Earth.

Firehouse Subs in Carson City is the place to be Tuesday evening for dinner, and a fundraiser for the Carson City and Douglas County Relay for Life.

Coming up on the final stretch of the work week, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019 is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area, including a morning Tahoe Rim Trail hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a Status of Women in Nevada meeting at the Carson Nugget, activities at the library including the first in a series of Job Seeking With Google workshops, plus the first of the three-day Rockabilly Riot car show at Mills Park and more. Carson City's "Postal Annex" will be hosting a grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration on October 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at their new location at 3827 South Carson Street.

UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, the Pirate Pup Parade will be moved indoors outside of the Black Box Theater at the Brewery Arts Center. The film showing of "Hook" will be held in the BAC Performance Hall. Food Trucks will be outside in the parking lot.

Going into Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, we're looking at a slight chance of showers with highs in the upper 60s around the Carson City region. Hot rods, rat rods, souped up trucks and the men and women who made them will be making their way into the capital city this week for the annual Rockabilly Riot which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday at Mills Park.

A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and hit and run after allegedly crashing into a vehicle, flipping off the driver of the vehicle and then driving home, a sheriff's report states.

NV Energy will begin work Wednesday, Sept. 18 on Highway 50 in Stateline at south shore Lake Tahoe to replace equipment in two underground electric vaults. The work, including excavation and repaving, is estimated to be completed by October 11. The schedule is subject to change based on weather.

Friday Sept. 13, no bad luck on this day, beginning at 1:18 p.m. was an assembly in the Big Gym during the last class of the day as an introduction to CHS’ Happiest Homecoming on Earth. Leadership students led the assembly with the first activity being the introduction of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates who made their grand entrance onto the floor.

Carson City Bee City USA will meet Wednesday, Oct. 2 for a special discussion with Greenhouse Garden Center owner David Ruff who will talk about preparing your landscape for winter.

The 6th Annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament will take place at the beautiful Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City. Tee time begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019.

This event is the last and largest of the events hosted by Carson City Kiwanis during their Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day activities. This event has sold out each year. The reason: all proceeds support Pancreatic Cancer research and scholarships to local high school graduates.

CARSON CITY — In response to the seasonal transition affecting daylight hours, the Rifle and Pistol Range will temporarily change its hours to Tuesday through Friday, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting Sept. 10, 2019. Daylight hours are beginning to reflect the occurrence of seasonal change. To ensure adequate and safe accommodations for range enthusiasts the range must adopt the new operational hours.

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

The Levitt AMP concerts are over but Wheeled Food Wednesdays are still rolling through each week to the Brewery Art Center to bring great food to the Carson City community. Wheeled Food Wednesday takes place on the BAC campus parking lot, 511 West King Street from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Marching forward to the midweek, Wednesday, August 28, 2019 will continue to bring sunny skies with a chance of isolated thunderstorms around the capital city.
