Stan Jones, former Carson City Supervisor and owner of Purple Avocado, passes at 88
On Friday it was announced that Stan Jones, former Carson City supervisor and long-time owner of the Purple Avocado, has passed.
Jones leaves a legacy behind in the capital city, from his extensive volunteer work, to being a small business leader, and more.
Jones has served on a number of boards throughout the city, culminating in his appointment to the Board of Supervisors in 2020, during which he served for two years. He and his wife Sue opened the Purple Avocado in 2001, and Jones has been at the forefront of the annual Carson City ornament program each year.
He has also served on the Ron Wood Family Resource Board, the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, the V&T Railroad Commission, and many more.
In his younger years, Jones served with the Army National Guard as a brigadier general, and was later inducted into the Nevada National Guard Hall of Fame in 2002, and in 2012, he was recognized with an American Legion Award for his long-standing service to veterans.
Mayor Lori Bagwell said that Jones will be missed, and she considers it an honor to have worked alongside him.
“It was an honor to work with Stan,” Bagwell said. “He was always willing to volunteer on committees and activities that benefitted Carson City. Stan was a man of his word. He applied to be appointed to the Board of Supervisors with no intention of running for the position; he just wanted to serve. We will miss Stan’s big smile and giving heart.”
The Purple Avocado is closed at this time.
