Tribal officers injured after Dresslerville suspect resists arrest
On Thursday December 13, 2018 at approximately 8:15 p.m., two Washoe Tribe Police Department Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on the Dresslerville Community located in Douglas County.
During the course of the investigation into the disturbance, WTPD Officers made contact with adult male, Everette Jim. After conducting a routine check for warrants on Everette Jim, the officers were informed that he was subject to a felony warrant out of Placerville, California.
Washoe Tribal Law requires the apprehension of any fugitive from justice wanted for felonious crimes within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California.
At that time, the two officers were the only two WTPD Officers on duty. When they attempted to take Everette Jim into custody for the warrant, he resisted arrest and attempted to escape apprehension.
Over the course of the following hour, the officers actively engaged in several physical attempts to take him into custody, and several times during the fray, he was able to create distance and run away from them in an attempt to flee.
The officers requested assistance from surrounding agencies to assist with the arrest due to the nature and extended time of the event. Law enforcement officers from surrounding agencies did respond to the reservation boundary, but declined to respond directly onto Washoe Tribal Property.
At one point a Taser was deployed, but failed to bring Everette under control.
After approximately 40 minutes of active resistence on the part of Everette Jim, a third WTPD Officer was able to respond to the scene and Everette Jim was taken into custody.
Both of the WTPD Officers who responded sustained non-life threatening injures as a result of the action.
Everette Jim was medically cleared, transported, and booked into the Washoe County Jail in Reno without further incident, where he remains in custody pending prosecution of tribal charges, including Disorderly Conduct, Assault, Battery, Interfering, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Failure to Register as a Felon.
