Two Carson City residents arrested for possession of stolen vehicle Thursday afternoon
A 29-year-old Carson City woman and a 36-year-old Carson City man were arrested Thursday for felony possession of a stolen vehicle after patrol deputies located the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a motel.
After locating the vehicle, which was reported stolen on Dec. 12, deputies watched security camera footage courtesy of the motel staff and witnessed a man, later identified as Aaron Svenningsen and a woman later identified as Joy Michelle Picard, exit the vehicle.
Motel staff said they did not recognize the couple and they were not registered motel guests.
After knocking on doors, deputies were able to find the room the couple were staying in, along with other individuals.
When they knocked on the door, deputies stated they witnessed someone looking out and then the deadbolt locked the door. After several more times of knocking and announcing “Sheriff’s Office,” the door was finally unlocked and a man opened the door, according to the report.
Deputies placed the man in handcuffs and asked who else was in the room. The man stated he did not know and began to cry, according to the report.
Several more announcements were made and another man exited the room and was detained. After several more announcements, Picard and Svenningsen exited and were detained.
Within the vehicle, methamphetamine was located inside the door pocket of the passenger side of the vehicle. However, neither were arrested for possession of a controlled substance, according to the report.
Deputies also located multiple credit cards and state-issued ID cards on Svenningsen’s person, along with the ignition key for the vehicle.
Inside Picard’s bag, deputies located a small cigarette case with a broken glass pipe with burn residue on it.
Picard stated she wanted to retrieve her items from the vehicle, but deputies told her nothing from the vehicle would be released until ownership could be determined.
Dispatch attempted to contact the registered owner of the vehicle to advise them it had been recovered but at that time were unable to make contact. The vehicle was towed and the ID cards, credit cards and pipe were booked into the evidence locker.
Deputies transported the pair to the Carson City Jail without incident.
