Humbled by "Holiday with a Hero" Event
There are days that are bigger than sports and where real life will humble you the most. Well, today was one of those days.
The 10th annual “Holiday with a Hero” event was today in Carson City and I am so glad I was a part of it for the first time. These kids have the best attitudes of all time and we can all learn a lesson from them.
After watching Santa arrive in style by helicopter, I was stationed at the big tent with the DJ and greeted the kids while handing them their lunches after they shopped with a hero. I was able to ask them what they got for Christmas and each and every one of them was ecstatic to tell me.
One little girl told me what she got for her sister, cousin, mom, and grandma. She said “because that’s what Christmas is all about.” – If that isn’t the most awesome and selfless answer ever, I don’t know what is.
The community turnout was off the charts. Carson City comes together like no other community, and I am proud to call this city my hometown. Sgt. Daniel Gonzales and the volunteers do a fantastic job of putting this event on.
I can’t wait to be a part of this event next year, and years to come.
