19th Holiday with a Hero shopping spree gives Carson City children a holiday boost
Wednesday was the 19th annual Holiday with a Hero shopping event held at Walmart and organized by the nonprofit that provides a Christmas shopping spree for some of Carson City's underprivileged children.
There were 170 students and more than 300 volunteers who helped the kids select, shop and wrap items for themselves and their family members for Christmas. Each child received a $100 gift card to do this.
Holiday with a Hero was founded in 2004 by Carson City Assistant Sheriff Daniel Gonzales and wife Meliah Gonazales, a Carson City court bailiff.
The event is made possible with the help of local first responders, military, medical heroes and a partnership with the Carson City School District.
"As a result of the overwhelming generosity of the Carson City community, this program continues to thrive," said Daniel Gonazales. "It's important to not only to provide a positive interaction with first responders, but to give each of them a better Christmas."
