Carson City deputies arrest man for possessing a ‘home-made shotgun’ among other felony, misdemeanor crimes
A 33-year-old Silver Springs man was arrested early Thursday morning for multiple offenses including being a fugitive from justice, driving without a drivers license, insurance, or registration, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, and possessing a “home-made shotgun.”
According to the arrest report, Corey Richard Hartman was arrested after deputies were patrolling the area of Highway 50 E. just before 2 a.m. and noted a vehicle with a California license plate driving with expired registration.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Hartman, who stated he did not have any registration of insurance for the vehicle since he had “just gotten it from his father.”
Another deputy arrived on scene and stated Hartman had a $50,000 warrant out of his arrest issued from Placerville County for “Inflict Corporal Injury on Spouse.”
Hartman was taken into custody on the warrant and placed in the deputy’s vehicle.
K-9 Deputy Bram conducted a sniff on the vehicle and alerted the presence of drug odor. Deputies searched the vehicle and located white glass pipe and a baggie of a white crystal substance in the front right passenger seat.
A black gun bag was also located in the back of the vehicle and deputies found a home-made shotgun within it along with a box of 12 gauge shotgun shells.
Deputies asked Hartman about the gun and he stated he had been out of work and “wanted to see if he could build one,” according to the report. He stated he had been unable to get it to fire, and had tried several times to get it to work.
Hartman was transferred to the Carson City jail and booked on seven counts with a bail of $57,178.
— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested for domestic battery with strangulation Wednesday evening after allegedly attacking his wife.
According to the report, Luis Joseph Lill was arrested after deputies were sent to a residence on Jeanell drive in reference to a possible domestic battery.
When deputies arrived they spoke with the wife who was crying, visibly upset, and was holding her head. She said after an argument, her husband had pushed her into a wall, grabbed her by her throat, choked her, and threw her down on the couch. She stated she believed she had lost consciousness for a brief moment.
Deputies noted she had visible marks to the front and right side of her neck.
Deputies made contact with Lill who went into the kitchen.
Inside the kitchen, Lill stood beside the refrigerator with his left hand out of sight to the side of the refrigerator. Deputies asked him multiple times to show what was in his left hand, but he refused, although he kept looking towards it, according to the report.
The reporting deputy stated they were concerned he may have armed himself with a knife, and drew their taser.
According to the report, Lill suddenly opened the freezer portion of the door and “flung it towards” the deputy. The deputy pushed it shut, and Lill did the same with the refrigerator door followed again by the freezer door, causing the deputy to lose sight of him temporarily.
The deputy shut the door again and deployed his taser on Lill, causing him to fall to the ground. The deputy turned him over and handcuffed him.
While being booked, Lill “spontaneously” said that he “didn’t do anything to her except push her after they argued,” according to the report.
