The second annual Homestead Holidays event takes place this weekend

The holiday spirit has reached the capital city, and during this second week of December you can find a myriad of events to get you full of festive cheer. Check below for a full list of holiday events happening this week in Carson City and beyond.

Thursday through Sunday

— Washoe Lake State Park celebrates return of 'Trail of Lights: A Drive-through Holiday Celebration.’ Enjoy some holiday cheer at Washoe Lake State Park with a sparkling drive-through festival of lights. Campground Loop B will be decorated with a jolly display of twinkling lights and holiday scenes.To learn more click here.

Thursday

Carson City Symphony's Youth Strings and Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir present “LatinXpressions III," Thursday, Dec. 9. Symphony Youth Strings and Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir, after-school educational programs of the Carson City Symphony Association, present "LatinXpressions III" on Thursday, Dec. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. Friday

— Weekend of family fun begins Friday with Homestead Holidays at Carson City's Silver Saddle Ranch. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department invites the community to its 2nd annual Homestead Holidays celebration at Silver Saddle Ranch happening this Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, Dec. 10-12.

This three-night event is from 5 to 8 p.m. each evening. The event will offer plenty of family-friendly activities and old-fashioned holiday cheer. To learn more click here.

— TOCCATA Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus holiday concert returns this season. The annual orchestra and chorus concert will be continuing in Gardnerville at the Trinity Lutheran Church this Friday at 6:30 p.m. For more information, click here.

Saturday

— Carson Christmas Craft Fair at Fuji Park happening Saturday, Dec. 11. Make your way down to Carson City’s Fuji Park Exhibit Hall Building, located at 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. to experience the 5th Annual Carson Christmas Craft Fair. The Carson Christmas Craft Fair takes place on Saturday, December 11 beginning at 10 a.m. and running through 5 p.m., where residents will be able to find a unique, one-of-a-kind gift for their loved ones. — Carson City’s Santa Train is back for its 37th year, pulled by the vintage Virginia and Truckee No. 25 steam engine, the Santa Train began Dec. 4 and will continue for the first three weekends in December. For more information, click here.

— Homestead Holidays at Carson City's Silver Saddle Ranch continues Saturday. — See the spirit of Christmas travel through Virginia City as Christmas cheer lights up the streets with the annual Parade of Lights, Saturday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. Sip some hot cocoa and enjoy sweet treats from our local shops as you take in the warmth of the Christmas spirit. — 38th Holiday Treat Concert happening Dec. 12 at Carson City Community Center. It's a Holiday Treat for all, a feast of seasonal and holiday entertainment. The Carson City Symphony and Carson Chamber Singers, joined by the Victorian Dancers, and Joyful Noise Carson Children’ Choir, present the 38th annual Holiday Treat concert on Sunday, Dec. 12 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center. — Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City hosts 'A Comstock Christmas Carol' this holiday season. The historic Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City, Nevada, hosts “A Comstock Christmas Carol” this holiday season. 100 citizen scientist volunteers gather Tahoe water quality data for 24th Snapshot Day

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Crash with injuries reported on I-580 entrance from North Carson

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.

With Nevada’s primary elections approaching, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reminds community members that political signage is not allowed on state highway property.

Federal regulations and Nevada state law prohibit political and advertising signage on public highway property, including but not limited to political signs, yard sale/event signs, and realtor or business signage.

It is important to know that state road property often extends beyond the roadside, fence line, or sidewalk of interstates, freeways, highways, and urban state roads/streets.
