Nevada State Parks meetings to discuss money for trail systems available through grant

On Monday, January 31, The Brother Dan Show welcomes guitarist Buddy Emmer. Originally from Texas, Buddy currently hosts Tuesday night blues at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, featuring weekly guest artists from across the country.

Buddy’s extensive lists of performance credits includes opening for a multitude of well-known artists including Joe Bonamassa, Elvin Bishop, John Lee Hooker II, Lydia Pence and Cold Blood, and many others. In addition, he has shared the stage with the like of Greg Allman, Jimmie Vaughn, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, just to name a few.

Hello fellow anglers. I told you in my last report that I was going somewhere new and special. I am here to tell you, it is as close to camping perfection as it gets.

The name of the place is the Walker River State Recreation Area. It is located off of Highway 208 just south of Yerington.

From highway 395, take the 208 turn off and go through Wellington NV. When you get past the Wilson Canyon area take the 208 turn off.

Approximately 4.5 miles will be the Walker River Rd to the east. You will also see a green road sign that directs you to Walker River State Park.

Carson City Symphony Association announces the Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir will begin the Spring Session on Tuesday, January 25, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., upstairs at the First United Methodist Church, 412 W. Musser Street in Carson City.

In the Quad Counties of Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County and Storey County as of Jan. 19, there have been 27,191 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, and 419 people have died from COVID-19.

Test positivity rates have increased dramatically within the Quad Counties, with Douglas County taking the lead at nearly 35 percent. There are currently 43 COVID-19 patients hospitalized within the Quad-Counties.

Due to staffing shortages, the Carson City School District transportation and bus services will be limited to only special education routes effective Friday, Jan. 21, 2022.

At a meeting recently, Carson City Democrats celebrated the fund raising efforts of its First Annual Plein Air Watercolor Competition. There was a $3,000 donation made to the C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Initiative for its work combating long term poverty and a $1,000 donation to a long standing scholarship fund at WNC targeted for Carson City students.

A new year means it’s time to start gardening chores all over again. And, while it is only the end of January, clean up chores and pruning have begun. After the huge wind storm a few weeks ago, where a gust of 96 mph was measured here in Washoe Valley, we had a lot of downed tree debris. Fortunately, there were no big branches or trees down, just hours of work picking up smaller materials.
