Sewer repair temporarily closes Telegraph Street in downtown Carson City
Carson City Public Works temporarily closed parts of West Telegraph Street in downtown Carson City Wednesday as contractor Q&D Construction worked to repair a lateral sewer connection that was not functioning properly, said Carson City Engineer Dan Stucky.
"Today’s street closure on Telegraph was unforeseen," Stucky said. "This was an urgent issue and required the contractor to get into the street immediately and investigate the situation and repair the connection to ensure it will function properly."
The sewer connection problem was affecting a residence in the area, Stucky said.
Some downtown businesses expressed concern over the street closure, but Stucky said the inconvenience is only temporary.
"The plan is to complete this repair [Thursday], so the street will be closed for a portion of [Thursday] until the work is complete," he said. "Sidewalks should remain open for this work."
Stucky also reminded businesses and residents that there are still a few minor construction tasks left to complete as part of the Downtown Curry Streetscape Project.
"There are still a few remaining punch list items that could result in short-term, intermittent closures, but should have minimal impacts on the traveling public," he said. "This work includes some additional pavement striping and the installation of the decorative steel arches at the Telegraph alley entrances."
Archwork is actually planned for this Thursday, weather permitting, Stucky said.
"They may need to close the sidewalks temporarily while this work is done," he said. "But it should only be short term."
