Carson City Supervisors appoint two members to Open Space Committee
Two candidates were appointed to fill terms on the Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee by unanimous vote.
The committee is made of seven members who serve staggered four-year terms. One vacancy was due to a resignation, and one vacancies was due to expiration of term.
A reappointment request was submitted by Mary Berge, and new applications were received from Beth Harrison, Richard Nagel, Robert Buttner, Samuel Mozingo, Jay Wiggins, Laura Chavez, Jeff Rauh and Traci Nelson.
Jay Wiggins was appointed to serve in the full term position through 2027.
Wiggins currently serves as a Commissioner on the Carson City Planning Commission, and has served as Chairperson. He has lived in Carson City for over 26 years, and has over 20 years of experience in utility distribution and transmission engineering functions including budgeting, compliance, design, training and safety.
He currently holds a certification from the State of Nevada as a Mechanical Engineer, and received his Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Wiggins serves as the Director of Natural Disaster Protection for NV Energy.
“I value and use the open space on a regular basis,” Wiggins wrote in his application. “I agree with the Carson City Master Plan that places value on the environment and scenic beauty of our area for our quality of life. As a Commissioner on the Carson City Planning Commission and Growth Commission, I have reviewed numerous projects that impact open space and it is a subject that I am interested in being directly involved in. I also wish to continue with public service and maintain my involvement with community matters.”
Samuel Mozingo was appointed to fill the partial term which ends Jan. 2024.
Mozingo attended college in New York, majoring in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management with a minor in Business Administration. He currently serves as an Assistant General Manager at the Wyndham Destinations Resort at South Shore and is currently earning his Certified Manager of Community Association certification.
“As a resident of this city I believe we are in a unique position to work with the greater community to create a responsible, curated and safe environment for people of all ages, race or gender to enjoy for decades to come,” Mozingo wrote in his application. “I am bringing a refreshed vision of community based leadership experiences in various roles over that I have held over last 7 years.”
