The Hidden Treasures Gift Shop is hosting its annual Christmas Fair this Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 1- 2, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. All items are handmade by seniors with a variety of quilts, placements, canes, jewelry, art, baby gifts and more! Everyone is welcome to shop.

Carson City and Douglas County emergency crews are on scene of a single vehicle crash that occurred about three miles west of Spooner Junction up U.S. Highway 50 toward Lake Tahoe Thursday night.

The vehicle is reported to be blocking the No. 1 eastbound travel lane.

An ambulance is on scene. Extent of injuries is unknown.

Ideas On Tap, a monthly community event focusing on improved discourse through topic discussion, has its first meeting of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at The Union Eatery-Taphouse-Coffee, 302 N. Carson Street in Carson City.

Held the first Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., the topic for this discussion is "Public Trust in the Media and the Importance of Journalism to our Democracy."

February's discussion, scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6 at The Union, is "Brain Drain."

A Carson City woman was arrested in the 3700 block of Tuolumne Street on the charges of felony battery with a deadly weapon, felony assault with a deadly weapon, and felony burglary.

On Saturday morning, unites were dispatched to the area in regards to a stabbing that had just occurred. While on route, dispatch advised that a woman reported her brother-in-law’s wife, Stephanie Ross, attacked her with a knife. The woman said she had been stabbed in the hand and that she barricaded herself in the bedroom.

A motor vehicle accident Thursday morning a little after 8 a.m. has closed the westbound travel lanes of Fairview Drive about a block east of Roop Street.

Reader Cullen Shiffrin sent in these photos of a mysterious light over town, taken on Wednesday evening. Could it be space junk, part of the ongoing meteor shower, or perhaps spooky aliens looking to become Carson City tourists?

The National Weather Service in Reno posted on Twitter that the light "was likely a meteor or space debris entering the upper atmosphere."

USGS reports a 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit 6km southeast of Carson City at 5:24 a.m. this morning. A second quake, originally measured at 3.4 magnitude before it was reduced to 3.1, hit at 5:30 a.m. 5km east northeast of Indian Hills, according to USGS. More details to come.

A motor vehicle accident involving a grey sedan near the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Airport Road in East Carson City is currently blocking the westbound lanes of Highway 50 East.

The crash occurred shortly before 5:40 p.m. Wednesday night. One vehicle occupant was transported by ground ambulance to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should seek an alternate route.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two male suspects who are being sought in connection with two instances of theft.

The crimes are do not appear to be connected.

CARSON CITY, NV – Open Enrollment may be over, but some consumers who did not enroll in a plan by December 15 may be eligible to purchase health insurance through a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).

Sierra Nevada Forums will be hosting a discussion on behavioral health and the criminal justice system in a January 8 forum.

"Carson City has been at the forefront in developing innovative programs focused on diverting individuals with mental illness and substance use problems from the criminal justice system," said a Forums spokesperson. "Community leaders will discuss how these strategic interventions have assisted struggling individuals while also reducing costs to the community."

In a historic move, Nevada is now the first and only state to ever have a female majority state legislation after Rochelle Thuy Nguyen (D) and Beatrice Angela Duran (D) were appointed to two open seats in Las Vegas.

These two appointments bring the total seats held by women to 33 out of a total of 63 seats in the Legislature.

A 36-year-old Sparks man and a 25-year-old Sparks woman were arrested at a local department store for multiple felonies after stealing items despite being trespassed multiple times from all locations of the stores.
