Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Pair busted for trafficking meth
A man and woman were arrested Friday evening at 5:13 p.m. in the 3300 block of U.S. Highway 50 East on charges of felony drug trafficking, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.
Ronald Aubrey Mauldin, 44, and Sacha Jaenicole Lennon, 40, both of Carson City, were taken into custody following a routine traffic stop for faulty brake lights.
According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy pulled a vehicle over that was emitting white brake lights instead of required red lights.
Contact was made with the male driver, Mauldin, and a female passenger, Lennon. Mauldin was recognized by the deputy from previous law enforcement contacts, the report said, and a records check through Carson City Dispatch showed he had a revoked driver's license.
A records check on Lennon confirmed an outstanding Nevada Highway Patrol arrest warrant for misdemeanor failure to appear on a traffic citation issued out of Hawthorne Township Justice Court. She was subsequently detained in handcuffs.
Upon searching Lennon for weapons, a cigarette package was located on her person. Lennon requested that the cigarettes be given to Mauldin.
However, the deputy had already looked inside the carton and observed a clear plastic bag containing a large amount of a white crystal-like substance recognized by the officer as methamphetamine, the report said.
A K-9 unit was called to the location and performed an exterior sniff of the suspect vehicle. The K-9 officer gave a positive alert sign at the driver's side door.
Mauldin was detained in handcuffs at that point and the discovered substance was field-tested as presumptive positive for meth.
The drugs recovered from the cigarette carton weighed 24 grams, the report said.
Cigarettes matching the brand on the carton were located on Mauldin's person incident.
Lennon became extremely upset during questioning, the report said, stating that Mauldin had given her the cigarette package and told her to hold it for him.
Lennon stated she assumed there was meth in the carton, but did not know how much was in it.
When queried by law enforcement, Mauldin denied any knowledge of the meth inside the carton and stated it belonged to Lennon, the report said.
The pair was transported to the Carson City Jail and booked without incident. Bail for Mauldin: $40,000. Bail for Lennon: $41,078.
