Law enforcement conducts sex offender checks in Carson City, 2 out of 158 not in compliance

On Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division in collaboration with the Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshalls conducted a sex offender compliance check in Carson City.

During the check, 158 registered sex offenders were checked to ensure compliance with community registration as required by Nevada Revised Statute 179D.460. Two registered sex offenders were arrested for being out of compliance with their required registration during the operation.

Sex offender compliance checks are completed by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office every year. Members of the community can access information and receive notifications about registered sex offenders in Carson City through offenderwatch.com. UPDATE FRIDAY: The Voltaire Fire is 100 percent contained at 517 acres. Fire personnel on scene is 164 people, the area will be monitored throughout the weekend, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

UPDATE 8:45AM Thursday: From Erin Holland, U.S. Forest Service public information officer: “There is no change to the footprint of the fire overnight. Crews from the Sierra Front were able to hold the fire at 504 acres, which was reported last night. We should have an update of containment this afternoon. The fire remains 30 percent contained.” Containment is expected by 6 p.m. Friday night.

Voluntary evacuations for the Carson Colony and Voltaire Canyon areas were lifted Wednesday afternoon as firefighters continue to make significant progress on the wildfire, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
