Early Finish: Interstate 580 between Carson City and Washoe Valley reopens Sunday morning
Finishing more than three hours ahead of schedule, at approximately 9:30 a.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 18, I-580 between Carson City and Washoe Valley reopened.
The interstate was scheduled to be closed through 1 p.m., but NV Energy crews completed work early to replace 120-kilovolt power lines which cross over the interstate and supply power to approximately 11,000 customers at Lake Tahoe.
To the Carson City and Reno communities who were so understanding of the utility-related closure of I-580 this weekend, NDOT extends our heartfelt thanks.
Every day, approximately 43,000 vehicles travel I-580 between northern Carson City and Washoe Valley. It is a vital connection between our northern Nevada communities.
We know many scheduled special accommodations and travel plans because of the interstate closure, and we appreciate our fellow Nevadans’ understanding as the interstate was temporarily closed during morning hours this weekend. We also appreciate all those who worked beforehand and over the weekend to keep everyone advised and safe during the closure.
The interstate is open, but we ask that community members anticipate heavy and different traffic patterns on the interstate this afternoon as community members access the road.
Thank you!
