Carson City crime log: Arrests made for felony grand larceny, domestic battery warrant
A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the 100 block of East Winnie Lane for suspicion of felony grand larceny, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Mark Matthew Samaniego was arrested at 4:02 p.m. According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the 1900 block of North Carson Street and met with the victim who advised a cell phone, case and wallet combination was stolen from the counter while she was helping customers.
A review of surveillance tape clearly showed the suspect stealing the items valued at $850. The suspect was with a female who later returned in a vehicle. The victim advised she confronted the female and told her that her male friend stole her phone. The female said she would return with the item and told the victim to giver her “five minutes.” The female never returned.
A license plate number was determined and a deputy made contact with the female who advised that she and the suspect got into an argument about him stealing the phone and that she kicked him out of her apartment, the arrest report states.
The deputy asked the woman to attempt to make contact with the suspect and get him to do the right thing and return the phone and turn himself into authorities. At around 4 p.m. the female called the deputy and said the man was with her at a parking lot and she was in possession of the cell phone and wallet. Samaniego was taken into custody and booked for suspicion of grand larceny. Bail: $25,000.
