California's first and only female Chief of Fire Protection featured to speak Saturday in Gardnerville

Ever wonder what it would be like being a female in the heavily male-dominated world of firefighting? Come and find out from Clare Frank who served as the State of California’s first and only female Chief of Fire Protection.

Clare Frank, who now lives in Genoa, will tell us her story and read a few excerpts from her book: Burnt: A Memoir Of Fighting Fire to the University Women's Club, Nov. 11, 2023, starting at 1:30 pm at the Carson Valley Methodist Church, Education Room, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office Youth Cadet to host Nov. 12 pancake breakfast fundraiser

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Youth Cadet program is hosting the 3rd annual pancake breakfast fundraiser. This event will take place Sunday, Nov. 12, 8 a.m. to noon at the Sheriff’s Office Ormsby Room, 911 East Musser Street in Carson City. All proceeds will go to the Cadet program to pay for equipment, uniforms and competitions.

Multiple holiday performances by Carson City Symphony's Youth Chorus begin Sunday

The Symphony Youth Chorus, a tuition-free educational program of the Carson City Symphony Association, is open to children ages 4 to 12 and performs several times a year. Directed by Michelle Powers, the Chorus will present holiday performances in Carson City this year.

Pop-up sale and benefit Sunday in Carson City to support Brewery Arts Center Pottery Program

Join the Brewery Arts Center pottery team for some early local holiday shopping Sunday while helping to support a worthy program. A pottery student "Pop-Up Sale and Benefit" will be held to support the Brewery Arts Center Pottery Program.

The sale will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the BAC Pottery Studio - 449 W. King Street, Carson City. A percentage of student sales will go back to the studio in addition to a raffle of student donated pottery.

The rising costs of supplies have made us cut back on some favorite glazes, organizers said. The sale will help return some of those lost glazes. In addition to great pottery, there will be wheel throwing demonstrations at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

As the winter season approaches, Carson City School District’s McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program is in need of new youth coats (boys & girls – all sizes) and new teen/junior sweatshirts and jackets (all sizes) for the winter season. The community-driven initiative aims at ensuring all students have access to warm clothing during the cold months.
