Carson City website honors employees who served their country
On Carson City's Web site today is a scrolling list of city employees who have served at various capacities in the nation's military branches.
Area events Thursday include the annual Salute to Veterans parade in Virginia City, which begins at 11 a.m. The line-up starts at 10 a.m. at the Fourth Ward School, 527 South C Street. Grand marshal will be John Koch, a Virginia City man who served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
The parade traditionally begins at 11 a.m., in recognition of the date and time the Armistice was signed ending World War I, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th year. Veterans with ID will receive free admission to the Silver State Peace Officer’s Museum on B Street.
The annual parade will feature veterans groups, high school ROTC teams and two marching bands — the Carson Middle School Band and the Dayton Intermediate School band.
Meanwhile, The Carson Nugget will salute veterans on Thursday with a concert featuring The Highwaymen tribute band. Service members are honored with free admission. Doors open at 6:30; the concert starts at 7 p.m.
Also, the Appeal's Brian Duggan has a story about local businesses who are offering discounts and deals to honor veterans.
