Two men identified in early Sunday morning attempted robbery in Carson City
Two 18-year-old men and three juveniles were arrested early Sunday morning for suspicion of attempted robbery on Hot Springs Road, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Jaime Montes of Dayton and Jose Anthony Vasquez of Carson City each face felony charges of attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit a robbery and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of minors. Three others, two 16-year-old males and a 14-year-old were also arrested.
According to the arrest report deputies were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. Sunday to the Carson Catalina Apartments in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road for a report of an armed robbery.
The victim called police and stated three males attempted to rob him at gunpoint after getting out of a vehicle. He stated the suspects were wearing bandanas on their faces and two of them were armed with handguns. He stated the suspected entered a red sedan and fled westbound out of the area, according to the arrest report.
With minutes, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy observed a 2007 red Lexus matching the description, which quickly turned into the parking lot of Carson City Inn, 1930 North Carson Street. The deputy initiated a high-risk traffic stop with other deputies arriving on scene.
At gunpoint the five occupants exited the vehicle and were detained. A sergeant and deputies approached the vehicle and in plain view observed a large black handgun on the rear right floorboard, according to the arrest report.
There was also a blue bandana on the front passenger floorboard. The vehicle was secured and processed after the Carson City District Attorney’s Office advised it could be searched on probable cause.
Inside the vehicle, owned by Vasquez, deputies located two weapons that resembled handguns. One was a large black revolver BB gun and the second was a small, silver weapon shaped like a small handgun. Other items included several blue and white bandanas, a mask, and several cellular phones.
Deputies spoke with the victim who said he was walking home from a movie complex when he was stopped by three males wearing bandanas. They pointed guns at him and demanded he empty his pockets.
He was able to escape the suspects and run away, calling 911 dispatch. He saw the suspects enter the red vehicle and left westbound. He described the weapons used in the attempted robbery and identified the vehicle and suspects from inside a patrol vehicle, the arrest report states.
Bail is $80,407 each for Montes and Vasquez. The juveniles involved in the case face similar charges.
