Carson High School annual coat drive is underway
The McKinney-Vento program through Carson High School is looking to provide 400 coats to area youth. With morning temperatures hovering near freezing, some of Carson City’s students are doing without coats and sweatshirts.
The Carson City School District’s McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program annual coat drive seeks to collect 400 coats for Carson’s students who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. Some of these students are living in cars, campgrounds or motels or with other relatives, without a place of their own to call home.
“We’d like to get a coat a day,” said Monica Pappas, owner of Fingerprinting Express in Carson City, one of the drop off locations for the coat drive. “Since the drive started in October, we’ve collected six coats. We know the need is so great, we are hoping more people will contribute.”
Organizers of the coat drive want to collect 400 coats and hoodies of all sizes. Donations may be dropped off during business hours at Fingerprinting Express, 1958 E. William Street; Superior Door and Window, 144 S. Curry Street; or at the McKinney-Vento building located at 628 W. Musser Street between 8 a.m-3:30 p.m.
