Storm cleanup continues in Carson City
Chainsaws are buzzing around Carson City this morning following Sunday's storm that whipped the area with average wind gusts of 40-plus mph and more than an inch-and-a-half of rain.
The city's public works and road department have been canvassing the town this morning, looking for stray limbs and branches that have covered the roads. Homeowners with chainsaws have been seen hacking up much of the stray branches, which block driveways and straddle fence posts.
Damage has been reported along the east and west ends of town, with trees and limbs falling on vehicles, homes and fence lines. Carson City fire and sheriff's deputies responded to calls throughout Sunday of downed tree limbs blocking the roadways.
Localized ponding happened throughout the city. On the north side of town there was flood along West Nye Lane and North Carson Street. And on the east side of town there streets were flooded from Fairview, Fifth Street and Saliman. Leaf and tree limb-clogged drainages were common among many city streets.
While there wasn't a widespread power outage, a transformer was damaged near South Richmond near and Annapolis streets in Carson City. Power was knocked for residents occupying several blocks.
