Carson City arrests: jail inmate booked for alleged battery on a prisoner

A 36-year-old inmate at Carson City Jail faces a felony charge of battery by a prisoner following an incident that happened inside a cell, a sheriff's office deputy report states.

Aaron Davis Maurer was booked Tuesday following an investigation into an incident that happened Monday at 8:44 p.m. According to the report, deputies reviewed a video that showed Maurer enter a cell and then exit the cell, where the victim was later discovered with multiple bruises and a minor contusion over the left eye.

During the investigation it was learned Maurer entered the cell while the victim was sleeping and that the suspect allegedly began hitting him, the report states. The victim inmate stated he attempted to escape but that another inmate held the door closed providing him from escaping, according to the report.

A deputy interviewed the suspect and read him his Miranda warning. He agreed to speak and then signed a Miranda rights waiver form. The suspect admitted to the physical altercation and admitted entering the cell to speak to the victim about a "jail issue," according to the report.

The suspect stated he could not remember any more details about the incident and then asked for an attorney, the report states. The deputy terminated the interview at that point. The suspect was booked for suspicion of battery on a prisoner by a prisoner. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrests:
— A 41-year-old Carson City man was taken into custody Tuesday, 11:45 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Carson Street for suspicion of DUI, accident hit and run and following too closely.

According to the arrest report, a deputy responded to the area of Sonoma Street and Frontage Road in regards to an accident hit and run report. Dispatch explained that a 2007 blue Dodge Durango was involved in a crash and fled the scene south on Frontage Road.

Dispatch arrived on scene and located the truck parked and unoccupied at a business in the 2900 block of South Carson Street. An officer checked inside the business, where it was learned a male subject went into a bathroom and had not exited. A deputy and the assistant sheriff then went into the bathroom and asked for the man after learning who the registered owner of the vehicle was.

The man was detained and handcuffed. He randomly made a comment about the other driver yelling at him. He was taken outside and read his Miranda warning in which he said he understood his rights and would speak, the arrest report states.

The driver said he was involved in a crash and that the other driver got upset and started yelling at him. He said he left the scene and parked the vehicle around the corner and went to the business to use the restroom. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking and he told the officer he had, the report states.

The man agreed to submit to standardized field sobriety tests. He stated he was also taking a prescribed medication. He showed signs of impairment and provided a preliminary breath test of .260, the arrest report states. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI, accident hit and run and following too closely. Bail amount listed: $1,921.

— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday at a Pratt Street residence for suspicion of domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area at 8:55 a.m. regarding a domestic dispute. A reporting party had advised to dispatch they heard screaming coming from the residence.

A deputy spoke with a man who was evasive and would not step outside to speak with officers. The deputy explained to the male that he was there to investigate a domestic dispute and wanted to make sure everyone was OK.

The deputy learned there was a female and a 3-year-old inside. The deputy informed the man that it was further concerning that he would not allow the officer to enter the residence to check on the safety of those inside, the report states.

The man eventually exited the apartment but refused to provide identification and protested the officer's presence. The officer observed fresh scratches on the man's neck and face, the report states.

A deputy spoke with the female inside through a screen door who agreed to step out and speak. An investigation continued, where the victim said she and the male were arguing and that it escalated. The victim told the deputy she was hit in the chin with a quarter, shoved and then pinned to the ground. Deputies observed red marks on the woman's throat and neck, the report states.

A deputy then interviewed the male again who confirmed there was a loud argument but that it was not physical. The deputy advised to the man that evidence showed physical injuries to both he and the female. He admitted he threw a quarter at the woman, and claimed that the scratches on his own face and neck may have been from him. The man was given multiple opportunities to explain how the altercation escalated but he continued being evasive, and said he didn't know how it escalated and that it was mostly verbal, the report states.

Deputies took photos of injuries of both the man and woman. The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 1:18 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street for a misdemeanor warrant alleging battery. The warrant was issued Oct. 21, 2019. Bail: $1,000.

— A 40-year-old Carson City man was booked Oct. 18, 2019 for a contempt of court warrant. Bail: $295.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
