On Saturday, local law enforcement agencies gathered at Fuji Park for a K9 showcase as part of the 2023 K9 Unit Challenge.
Apprehension and Agility events were on full display at Fuji’s main arena, where bleachers were provided for public viewing (and cheering).
In addition to the main event, there was a chance to meet the dogs, vendors, get K9 swag and food including tacos, poke, and BBQ.
There was also a SWAT demonstration at 10:30 a.m., and JJ Christy with K-BULL 98.1 made a special appearance at 1 p.m., with a mounted unit demonstration following at 3 p.m.
At the end of the event, all K9 officers and their handlers were brought back into the ring for a final award ceremony where both dogs and their partners were honored in a number of categories including explosive odor detection, narcotic odor detection, the obstacle course event and more, with several awards coming home to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
