Hundreds to walk in Carson City Oct. 20 against human trafficking
On Oct. 20, 2018, hundreds of people will walk through downtown Carson City — single file, silent and dressed in black.
They will gather for the millions of human beings trapped in slavery today. As they do, tens of thousands more will gather all over the world for this global fundraising and awareness event called #WalkForFreedom.
Human trafficking is the fastest-growing criminal industry in the world. At least 5,016 individuals are sold for sex in an average month in Nevada.
Nevada’s number of prostituted persons per capita is 63 percent larger than the next largest state of New York, and more than twice as many as in California.
Millions of slaves. A $150 billion industry. Just one percent ever rescued.
The purpose of #WalkForFreedom is simple: We walk to raise awareness about the millions of men, women, and children who are being exploited through sex and labor trafficking.
By fundraising and rallying thousands of people around the cause, we believe this event will be the catalyst for the rescue and restoration of those trapped in slavery.
Sponsored by local businesses and organized by local volunteers, the Carson City event begins at 10 a.m. at State Capitol Amphitheater and ends in the same place.
We are an extension of A21, a global nonprofit determined to eradicate human trafficking through awareness, intervention, and aftercare.
Through partnerships and the efforts of supporters all over the globe, A21 believes that a multitude of victims can be identified and assisted, and perpetrators can be brought to justice.
We walk to end it. Forever. #WalkForFreedomCarsonCityNV
